"The knit wits". I know it does not sound complimentary but it sure grabs the attention.

What does C4 mean in knitting

I believe it means a 4 stitch cable or a stitch made with 4 threads. I found this on a knitting website and it might help:

"A 4-stitch cable will be made with 4 stitches, a 6-stitch cable with 6 stitches and so on. Most of the time these sets of stitches are divided equally.
For the 4-stitch cable the first 2 stitches are slipped purlwise onto a cable needle or double pointed needle whichever you prefer. You will knit the next two stitches on your left needle, and then knit the two stitches from the cable needle. The knitting stitches are crossed over each other and you have created a nice little cable stitch."

Here is a YouTube video for the stitch: How to Knit The 4 Stitch Cable

What does knit over mean

Read the pattern again. You may be doing short rows. Buy a more detail knitting book. If you can go to Knit and Crochet Today it's a tv show that has a website they have experts in knitting and crocheting. Sure there is a demo or someone you can ask to explain in detail. I think the show comes on Thursday in Chicago but its once a week on cable/satellite on pbs.

What is yfwd?

yfwd = yarn forward

This is an eyelet hole which appears between 2 Knit stitches.
If worked between after the 5th knit (K) stitch in a pattern, it would be written in the pattern thus: K5, yfwd, K...

**To work this, bring the yarn between the needles to the front of the work as shown here.

All you do to complete a yfwd is to bring the yarn towards you.
