Question about Seagate Computers & Internet
You might consider the following steps first :
1) Try to remove the USB-cable from your PC. Now try to re-attach it to another USB-port at your PC.
2) Try to connect this external disk to another PC.
First of all, you should check if your harddisk is still under warranty and even may give it a call at Toshiba customer-service for help.
If you've lost warranty or prefer to solve it yourself, you can go for the following steps :
3) If this didn't solve the problem, there's a chance there's an internal failure of electronic components at your USB-enclosure. In such case it's best to remove the disk and see if you can reconnect it inside your computer to the motherboard. If the problem is solved, than, yes, it was a failure at the USB-enclosure. It's time to look for a different USB-enclosure which you can buy quite cheap online, or at a local store.
4) If the problem still maintains, you're problem is a bit larger: the harddisk got seriously damaged / defective.

Testimonial: "Thanks a lot B. Boelens for your support, however that did not work. I got no problems with the USB port on my laptop, also the portable disk has no hardware issues, something went wrong with the parameter! Have you got a way to fix the parameter? Thanks a million"
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

I had the same problem some have posted about. I had a lot of data on my drive and then one day it didn't show up in "My Computer" anymore. I had to assign a separate drive letter to the external drive.
Plug in the drive.
Right click on "My Computer"
Click on "Manage
Click on "Disk Management"
On the bottom half of the right side you should find "My Book" assigned to a disk number.
Right click on "My Book"
Click "Change Drive Letter and Paths"
Select a new drive letter and hit OK
Hope this helps some people out.
