Question about Computers & Internet
I am trying to use my new hdd toshiba gsy in a Nippon lab 2.5in casing and my hp pavillion is detecting in the usb, but when I go to the computer in Vista I do not have the new hdd. In my generic desktop I have Xp and it tell me that I have to format the new hdd? I can format using XP using my desktop but my laptop uses vista, can I do this?. How can I clone my hdd to my new one, I have to buy ghost or something like that. Can I get out my older hdd and then put the new one and use the recovery manager and the backup disks. Please any comments for this issue. My computer is a HP pavillion dv 6500z
Yes you can format this drive from your XP machine, or in vista (or xp for that matter) right click on my computer and then left click on manage.
When the computer management screen comes up highlight "Disk Management" on the left side. This will then display your drives in the right side. From here you can right click on the drive and create partitions, format etc.
You will need ghost or some other cloning software if you want to image the old drive to the new one. However if you have restore disks for the computer you should also be able to just install the OS on the new drive.
Hope this helps
