Lite On LVW-5115GHC

I have recorded some DVDs in the past with this unit, but now it can't recognize any disc I put in. It ejects them and says invalid disc. I have tried several brands with the same result. Any suggestions?

My LVW-5115GHC+ also will not read any disks whatsoever. Always get a "NoDisk" message. I tried removing the cover to clean the laser but I then noticed that when I put in any disk the motor never spins the disks to read them. I guess the motor is gone. I have had this unit for about a year but did not use it much at all.

I have the same exact problem. I tried other media as well, some media says Invalid Disc, others say No Disc. Regulare dvd movies play fine however. Has anyone been able to fix this?

Same problem here also. Will not read any dvds but it will play cds. Have had some problem when first bought it but not enough to take it back now it want play dvds or record. Help!

Seems we're getting this problem around the same time....weird but may well suggest a certain part has a short life span,i just wish i knew which one it was! I've upgraded the firmware to the latest edition, cleaned the lens, and greased the track, for a system that has had no over use at all i'm very dissapointed....And there doesn't seem to be anybody out there who knows whats gone wrong, like the others it will not read any disc it has recorded itself after the disc has been removed and put back in.This of course with finalisation completed.Although strangely it will play the disc back until it is removed, then no luck, however the little Pacific player i have upstairs plays back the recording just fine!!
The player will now only recognise Retail recorded DVD's(such as movies) ,and no other format. A real shame.

Try cleaning it again. Did you clean all the sensors? In order, you first remove the exterior cover with the 2 large side screws on the side (one is under a sticky label) and then on the back, remove the 4 screws around the perimeter of the cover. Pull off the cover and then remove the 2 screws on the silver colored plate over the CD/DVD drive. Then spring in the 2 tabs toward the rear that lock down the rear of the drive cover, and lift the silver cover off the drive. Now there will be an obvious lens and a couple of more light output devices that don't look like lenses. You should see them off to the side after you look it over well. Cleaned with Isopropal and dry with a dry q-tip. After I did this, I had the same problem still. I then took the unit apart again out to the garage and used a throttled back air stream from my air compressor to clean all around the the sensor head. I re-assembled it, put in a DVD and it played OK.

I have a Lite On LVW-5115GHC+ since 9/07 and all of a sudden i was getting "invalid disc", "blank disc", and "no disc" error messages. Just out of the blue. I got on this forum and started reading that there maybe dust on the lens. I just unscrewed the case and removed the plate over the lens, really easy. It didn't even look like there was any dust but I blew around the drive and wiped off the lens, put it back together and It works just fine now. I hope this helps. I was at my wits end!!!!!!!! :)

go to control panel, and use the restore utility. Put the last day that you know was working good, and click, and ready.
However you must pass the anti-virus+antimalware.

Keep getting "Fail" on blank discs

The LVW-5005 DVD Recorder came with a list of recommended brands for each type of disc, and they are all different in all categories. Some brands are recommended for CDs, some for DVDs, etc. They are not the same in any catagory. Most of the ones I bought were not on the list, because I couldn't find those listed anywhere in my neighborhood here in California. Some worked before, but are not working well now. Some have never worked, and some are failing intermittently.

The INVALID DISC message comes up on both units often, but when it comes up on the LVW-5005 unit the DISC eject feature will not eject. The open close door stays shut and says it is open, but sticks and keeps trying to reread the disc. You actually have to tip the machine down to let gravity help, and then turn it on and off and on and off and it finally opens and drops out the invalid disc.

The LVC-9016G unit says "change disc", or gets stuck on "Preparing". Sometimes it prepares, and then I can actually record, but when I try to load it later..... FAIL! This too is INTERMITTENT. GOD I HATE THAT WORD!!!!

I am not good a taking machines apart, and I have a MAC system 10.5 computer, and the firmware update seems to be geared to the WINDOWS PC. HELP?? Is there anything I can do.

Also IS THERE A LIST OF PREFERRED BRANDS of the media for the LVC-9016G model. It may be the same as the list for the LVW-5005 unit, except the that unit is supposed to record on CDs as well. NOT SURE> None are working consistantly.

The other idea that I had is that the newer DVD-R and DVD-RW or the DVD+R and DVD+RW discs have a heavier technology and these older burners (2 years makes it older, I guess....) and seem to no longer like them.

The 6 hour SLP I always set them to record on in the past, may no longer be valid. The 4x, 8X 16X etc. may not work either. Since I don't understand what that means, and we only have access to what is available to buy, I am at a loss there too. I am logical, but not technically educated in this technology. I come at this with psychology, not technology... :-)

I have the LVC-9016G for 2 years, and the other bought at COSTCO only a year ago. Is $300 worth of equipment already obsolete?

I have not hacked or touched anything. I may need to buy another lense cleaning disc. I have a memorex one, but when I put that in it said INVALID DISC, and will not work either. Won't read or spin.

I am frustrated...http://club.cdfreaks.com/images/smilies/6/eek.gif.

Candy user_offline.gif this can be due to invalid media........all types will not burn in this unit........good success....meder's tv service

Liteon dvd recorder lvw1101 starts reading the dvd then says it preparing the disc then it ejects it

The Optical head unit is faulty. The disc is not being read by the head unit laser and so conveys a wrong message which ejects the cd.
Replace the optical head unit assembly but with the correct procedure.

Unreadable disk error

The laser in 5101 could be defective or maybe just dirty.Try cleaning with a commercial cleaning disc, put a drop of rubbing alcohol on cleaning brushes. When this happens sometimes it will still be a usable disc but not always.Try putting in another dvd player or recorder or your PC if it plays dvds, the readers in PC are of a better quality and will often read discs that those cheap dvd readers can't.
R+ or R- discs need to finalized after recording RW+and RW- discs do not.It is always a good policy to finalze the second your recording is finished otherwise it may not play in other players or recorders.
When you make a recording in a dvd recorder an it doensn't recognize the disc it just recorded it quite often has a defective laser. This particular model has been plagued with early laser failure.

Doesn't recognize disks anymore

This is a common problem with the Lite-on LVW range of DVD recorders due to changes in the construction of more recent DVD R media. It can be solved with a relatively simple firmware upgrade.

Goto : http://r00.liteonit.com.tw/DC/english/download/index.asp

You'll need to have a blank CD and a CD/DVD writer in the PC you use to download the file.

Follow the instructions on the website to upgrade your firmware, this should then allow you to write to DVD's once again.

Won't read DVDs

Hi, Ive just repaired several liteon's ( incidently they are identical inside to some philips models ). In most cases the non writing or non reading problem is caused by dust on the laser glass. You have to open the unit then remove the dvd drive then remove its covers and just give a wipe of the laser with a clean non fluffy cloth. If theres lots of dust in other parts of the drive then this will need to be removed also as it could easily get onto the laser when in use. Even almost new liteons can suffer the problem , it only needs a little bit of dust to top the laser shining onto the dvd , instead the dust just reflects the light back. Hope this helps.
