Is that what you are reading as the code ? To verify this fault have the engine running, with an insulated pair of long nose pliers and remove plug wire from number one spark plug. Let me know if the engine pitch changes.

    Hello david I assume.
Is missfire #1cylinder coming up on a scan tool? If so could you perform this isolation test? With the engine running at operating temp take a long nose isulated pair of pliers and carefully remove spark plug wire #1 from the plug take note of and changes in engine rpm or shaking. And let me know the result of this test.

Ok sorry i took so long i tried that the engine doesnt change . I have just about narrowed it down to the crankshaft position sensor the sending side not reciever in other words whatever sends the signal to the sending unit is sending the wrong signal

  • G8or8 Dec 01, 2013

if the engine pitch did not change then cylinder #1 is dead. Perform a compression test on all cylinders you may find #1 cyl is signifigantly lower than the others.

How do I find the timing marks on a 1992 voyager

Sounds like you replaced the distributor without setting #1 at TDC? The distributor cap should indicate which plug is the #1 plug wire. If there are no inspection plugs you can pop out to see the timing marks on the camshaft gears you will need to disable the starting system (fuel flow) remove #1 plug and turn it over until #1 piston is at TDC on the compression stroke. Then insert the distributor cap with the rotor on it, taking note of where the #1 plug tower is on the cap. Once the dist is installed place the cap on and make sure the end of the rotor is aligned with the #1 tower inside, if it is your good to go. If not take the dist out and turn it a bit left or right then put it in again until it lines up correctly (may take a few tries). Once aligned secure everything, replace spark plug and it should fire up.

It has a misfire ,we changed the plugs and the coil pack and wires still has a misfire what else could it be

Gas or compression. Check the injector circuit on 1 and 3. Are they pulsing, to put gas in the cylinders? Do a compression test to rule out loss of compression as cause for the misfire.
Kind of odd it would be 1 and 3, but that is one right after the other in the firing order of 1-3-4-2...so, you have a single coil? So you have a distributor-examine closely the distributor cap and rotor if those were not changed too, with the plugs and wires. Look for damage, little black tracks that indicate shorting of the spark, maybe damage at the electrode tips on the inside of cap on 1 and 3 plug wire towers. Most people change the cap and rotor when doing the plugs and plug wires.
Just a possibility also, that the injector ground wires for 1 and 3 might share the same ground. That is to say, they might splice together before going to the computer where the computer internally grounds injector circuits to cause pulsing. Well, those are my thoughts, good luck. And let me know what you find, always interested.

Misfire on all cyl. Sometimes more sometimes less. all over the place

6 or 8 cyl ? Were you driving down the road when it happened ?

Usually the ignition module is inside the dist and that fires the coil. The coil is either in the cap or mounted on the intake manifold.
If the truck has over 100,000 miles the timing chain could be off. A timing light would tell you.

I changed the spark plugs and wires on my chevy s10 2wd pick up, which is a 4 cylinder and now it will not turn over. I might have the wires mixed up on the distributer cap. Can someone show me a picture...

GET A PIECE PAPER DRAW A LARGE CIRCLE TOP UPPER HALF CIRCLE LEFT TO RIGHT WRITE NUMBERS 1 AND 3 BOTTOM HALF CIRCLE LEFT TO RIGHT RIGHT NUMBERS 2 AND 4 THAT YOUR DISTRIBUTOR SPARK PLUGS WIRES LOCATION.STANDING ON SIDE OF ENGINE WHERE DISTRIBUTOR IS LOOKING DOWN AT DISTRIBUTOR 1 AND 3 FIRST TWO SPARK PLUGS TERMINALS NEXT TO ENGINE. AND 2 AND 4 SPARK PLUGS TERMINAL ON CAP FACING YOU. THIS IS CYLINDERS LOCATIONS STANDING IN FRONT OF ENGINE.RUN WIRES FROM DISTRIBUTOR CAP TO PLUGS TO THE ENGINE SPARK PLUGS.

I have a 1987 pontiac fiero and i took the spark plug wires off the distributor and now i don't know where they go.

the firing order on 99% of 4 cylinder engines is 1,3,4,2. look on the distributor (dist) cap and see if it has any marks like a line or a #1 by on e of the plug wire towers. start with that one and then go in the direction the distributor rotor turns. attach wires one by one in the order 1,3,4,2 . to find the direction of rotation take the cap of the distributor and have a friend crank engine for 10 sec. no1 cylinder is in front of engine, i think it is on the right side on the Fiero, where the belts are. if no markings on the dist. cap remove no1 plug and get ti to the top on the compresion stroke ( both valves closed) and see where the rotor in the dist. ends up that is your no 1. hope this helps.

Cannot start changing pugs and wires

Sounds like you have the firing order right but your off on the #1 on the distributer. Every time you get an explosion coming from the carb its misfiring. Find the #1 on dist and continue with firing order

#4 cyl misfires/code 304

P-0304 indicates number 4 cylinder misfire. Are you using Toyota parts dept spark plugs? More often than not, non-toyota plugs make the v-6s run poor, right out of the box....
Try this:With the engine running, pull the connector wire off of the #4 injector. Note to see if there is any change with the idle quality. No change? You may have a bad injector.
