Question about Sony PFM-42X1 Plasma TV
I have the same TV with the same problem. I am sorry that all the answers are so silly and basic. I just open up mine to check all the compositors to see if their are any Bulging or to see if anything looks damage. I will pull the Power supply and start checking the compositors. and let you know. I will look in other places first to see if I can get some REAL Answers. Poco Zocko Actor

Flat panel TV's typically do not have "bulbs," but rather backlighting. Plasma displays are especially touchy during movement. I would suggest checking your warranty status, as it's probably not something you can easily repair. If you wanted to take on the repair yourself, be careful not to lay down the screen, as it will drastically shorten the life of the Plasma display. I would start with checking the system boards for possible damage, since you did hear a "click," It was probably a fuse, chip, etc.

This is a common problem with plasma tvs You did not mention whether you could generate any sound like through your dvd player or something like that. Whether you have audio or not makes a difference on which board may be causing you the problem. Just because it does not have a picture for tv viewing does not mean it won't produce some type of sound through your av1 input. Try it and I'll try to be more specific.

brennanrp, I hope you purchased a warranty on your TV. My 46 in xbr-5 was doing the same thing. I called the store I bought it from and they took it to a repair shop. The panel inside, basically the inner workings are faulty and Sony has put an extended warranty on it. Get it looked at as it will only get worse. Soon you will probably be seeing some vapor like images across the screen if you have not already. the lines starting showing up even after extended viewing times.
