Question about HP LaserJet 4L Printer

1 Answer

Printer won't print all of a sudden

I have owned this 4L for over 10 years and it has worked flawlessly for all that time, then all of a sudden I can't get any documents to print. I have done nothing to the hardware, but this weekend did a disk clean up in Accessories and defragmented my hard drives. All connections are secure. I can get a print test page, but nothing else. When I check the print que after quite awhile of trying to print, my PC gives me an "out of paper" message which it cleraly is not. Help, any suggestions.

My HP LaserJet 4L printer will print a test page directly from the printer button, but will not print any documents. The cable is still correctly installed, etc. It seems it just doesn't send the print message to the printer so then I get a timeout error. Any help?

I have had exactly the same problem. It will print a test page but will not print a document. I get the same error message that it is out of paper.

Won't print from computer

Try borrowing another suitable printer lead and test with that. If the printer can do a self test, it is likely the printer is not the problem. If that does not work, if you can, use another printer with your computer - but set it up first. Failing that come back for more help

HP LaserJet 4L quit working It's connected to my PC and it's on. All 4 lights are on; 2 green and 2 orange. When I try to print, the paper goes through but nothing is printed on the paper.

Empty cartridge maybe?
Otherwise it's simple: selt-test page(by printer button) printed ok - it's outer problem. Self-page is blank - it's inner problem. And so on... use Golden Section method

My canon pc940 suddenly prints copies with a dark stripe running down the middle of each page.

On your computer open the menu for your printer. Somewhere there you will find an icon that initiates a cleaning procedure. It usually takes just a few minutes and the printer wil go through the cleaning procedure on its own.

I own a CP1215 which is barely a month old. It worked fine until yesterday. Suddenly, each time I attempt to print, it gets stuck as it comes out. I followed a tip I found online and close the back tray...

This might not be a solution, but rather something to get your job done if nothing else (if it works):

Try using the "manual feed" tray instead of the paper tray. Depending on where the jam is occurring in the machine, it could bypass that spot and print fine.

Best of luck!

I've got a 4L that has been an absolute workhorse and it makes a grinding noise here recently and will not print. I hate to replace it as the cartridge lasts about 10 years. I know its about 15 years...

The grinding noise is caused by a cracked motor gear. This is a very common issue on the Laserjet 4L and 4P units. It is a fairly easy repair but you will need to disassemble the printer to get to the drive motor. The gear is available here:

Can't cancel a HP PSC 750 Printer print job.

Hi,
Right click on MyComputer and click Manage. Then go to Services and Applications and then Services. Find the Print Spooler services in the list and right click to stop it. When it is stopped try to cancel the document again. Then start the print spooler service again.

HP laserjet 4L wont print from computer

Normal 0 Driver could be corrupt.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud
