Question about Brother MFC-7820N Printer

I can't get the printer to say ready, it stays offline.

I returned from vacation with my laptop. When I booted it up my Brother 7820n printer says offline and I can't get it to say ready. As a result, I can't print anything. My other printer, prints fine. This happened before and I do not remember the solution.

"use printer offline" is my only choice. Printer is already offline. Could it be printer setting not a computer setting? Thanks for trying to help me.

There is no offline on the printer control panel. There is no check next to "use printer offline".

Can you let me know how your printer is connected to your computer? USB to the computer, or Ethernet cable to a router? Also, what version of Windows are you using? From there I can guide you to a solution.

Sorry, does it say "offline" somewhere on your machine's control panel?, or just next to the printer icon on your PC.
Also....When I had you try my first solution, was there a "check" next to "use printer offline"? If so, just click this to "uncheck" it - some OS display differently.

Bad Scan Quality Using Brother MFC-7820N Document Feeder

Look to the left side of the flatbed glass for a thin strip of glass by itself. When you scan from the glass, the document stays put and the sensor moves across the document. When you scan from the feeder, the sensor stays in that glass strip and the document moves across the sensor. See what I mean? I would check the small feeder glass for dirt or scratches from staples or other flotsam. Also not a bad idea to blow out the feeder path with some compressed air to ensure the documents is handled smoothly. Hope this helps!

Problems with Brother MFC-7820N Laser Printer turns itself off

I just had same issue, it shared an outlet with a large volume work group copier, I unplugged it, opened and closed all compartments to make sure something open was not causing issues. I plugged it into different outlet and it appears to be back online. I have read some postings that this model has been known to draw over 15 amps. Its possible its starving for power. To test take to another room, plug in outlet by itself and see if it boots up.

Printing from XP to a Brother 7820N as a networked printer

We have multiple 7820s in our office. This would be a configuration problem with your windows XP computer. From the XP computer, open a command prompt and type "ping x.x.x.x" where x.x.x.x is the ip address of the 7820n. Make sure you get four successes. I would then uninstall the brother software and drivers and go to "printers and faxes" in the control panel and manually add the printer.

To manually add a network printer, with it's own print server, on Win XP:

1 Click "Add Printer"
2 Select "Local Printer Attached to this computer"
3 Deselect "Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer" then click "Next"
4. Click "Create a new port" and select "Standard TCP/IP" from the drop down. Click "Next". this will open TCP/IP Wizard
5. Type in Printer IP Address next to IP Address (Port name will autopopulate) and click "Next"
6. If wizard finds printer, it will show you "Finish" button. If you get a "Additional Port Information Required" window, something is wrong with your printer or windows xp network configuration.
7. When the TCP Wizard window closes, it will take you back to Add Printer Wizard. Select "Have Disk" and navigate to the \USA\WXP\Addprt directory on your Brother Drivers disc.
8. Select brxpadd.inf and click "Open" then click "OK"
9. Select "Brother MFC 7820 N Printer" from the list and click "Next"
10. Select name of printer, whether you want a default, print test page and DONE!
