The brushes won't turn. I want to fix it myself but can't figure out how to get to the drive mechanism, by taking the top cover off. I have all the screws out but it seems to have some snap fits holdi

The brushes won't turn no matter what. I'm trying to fix it myself, any instructions available how to get to the gear box or whatever drives the brushes?

If you turn the vacuum over and are able to turn the brush by hand and it won't turn while its running, then your belt has broken.

The motorized brush on my DC35 no longer turns. I cleaned the debris from the brush but it still won't turn. The belt is in great shape but the gear is physically hard to turn. How do I fix it?

After removing the screw in the centre of the brush bar drive gear, gently lever the gear away which will reveal a possible build up of hair behind.

Need to replace belt and cannot figure how to take it apart to get at the belt --- Took Screws off on the bottom but could not get to the belt

You have already removed the screws so lift the brush cover off. Then grasp rotating floor brush at both ends and lift. Clean strings, hair and other debris from rotating brush, paying close attention to the brush ends. Clean the debris from motor pulley and drive belt areas.Grasp old drive belt and remove from motor pulley. Place new drive belt over motor pulley and stretch other end over rotating floor brush in the space between the bristles. Place the ends of the rotating floor brush down into slots on the sides. Turn the rotating floor brush by hand several times in the direction of motor pulley. If installed properly, drive belt will center itself on rotating brush. Reposition brush cover and screw back into place. I hope that this helps you!

My hoover carpet scrubber the brushes won

(1) Remove the brush block and assure the presence of the square drive pin on top of one brush. It should be about 1/4 inch square, two inches long to connect o the drive mechanism.

(2) Remove and clean the filter screen from the base, behind the brushes. Squeeze the two red tabs together, and pull down from the base. Clean the hiar/debris from the screen.

(3) Assure the Brush Speed knob on the hood is NOT set to the OFF position.

The belt p/n 0100623 broke - need instructions on how to replace it - we have Bissell ProHeat Powersteamer

I just replaced mine last night. 1) take off the top belt cover. 2) take the water and cleaning solution tanks out then lay the unit on the side so the bottom of the cleaner is facing you (water and solution may leak out so you might want to do this on an old towel). 3) On the same side of the machine as the belt cover but on the bottom you'll see an orange piece (at least it is on mine) that is held in with one philips screw. Take the screw out then slide the orange plastic piece out (might need a pliers to help). 4) there is a black cover over the brush belt that has a tab on it. Pull on the tab and the brush roller on that side will come out of its place. 5) You'll see a cogged belt that drives the brushes. Just slip that off the drive on the machine. You don't need to take it out completely - just off the drive. 6) Slip the new belt (p/n 0100623) in and on to drive. It goes "inside" of where the cogged belt goes. 7) Slip the cogged brush belt back on. 8) push the brush roller and black belt cover back into position. 9) slide the orange plastic piece in place (make sure the belt cover is held in place by it) and screw it back on. 10) flip the cleaner so it is on its wheels again. 11) pull the new belt over the metal drive and manually get it kind of centered. Make sure it isn't touching any protruding plastic. 12) plug in the cleaner and quickly turn it on and off while looking at the new belt. You should see it self center. 13) put the top belt cover back on 14) insert water and cleaner tanks. 15) get to work.

It'll take less than 10 minutes to make this fix (less than 5 probably).

Sorry it is not belt driven. There is a turbine that drives the brush. You have to remove the top cover to get to it. But if the motor smells hot, then you may have a problem with it also.

Bissell Proheat 2x Series 8920 - Brush Belt Metal Shaft Sprocket won't turn

Most likely the brush motor is bad and not turning, part #2036757, would sell for around $23. To get to it, start taking out screws on the top cover, that motor is under the that top access cover.

from the underside: 1. remove 4 screws holding agitator cover in place 2. remove 2 screws (black screws) holding hose retainer in place, pull hose out through top 3. remove three screws, 2 long, 1 short holding top cover: short screw is at center of inside of brush housing, long screws are inboard of wheel axles, and slightly forward (all of these screws are aluminum colored) 4. from inside surface of each side, at approx the center, locate and push down on ledge inside right and left inside with a screwdriver to slightly displace the plastic ledge that holds the cover on; this ledge-lock-detent can be released with your fingers. You'll have to support the drive mechanism to allow the top housing to drop free. 5. remove housing, turn vacuum over, then go find the torx driver you need to disconnect the cable. No spinning.

Most common problem when the brushes stop spinning on this model or any "SpinScub" model is that screen filter is clogged as suggested above. If that isn't your problem then likely the turbine has gone bad. Some genius at Hoover designed a metal gear to drive a Nylon gear (Inside the black part that says "Assembled in Mexico". If the brushes jam hard and sudden, the metal gear just shaves the nylon right off. Solution: You will need a new turbine unit. Cost for the part is about $36, installation takes about 15 minutes (about 6 screws and two tubes).
I refurbish and repair vacuums and steam cleaners for a living and see this all the time.
