How to connect your Nintendo Wii to the internet

Hello,

In this tips and tricks guide I will go over the steps you will need to take if you wish to connect your Nintendo Wii to the internet. If you want to connect wireless you will need to be within range of a wireless access point. If you wish to connect via a wired connection(Ethernet to modem or Ethernet to router) you will need a Wii LAN adapter which is sold separately.

-Power on the console and press the A button to reach the Wii menu. At the menu, use your remote to select the Wii button at the bottom left.

-Now select "Wii settings"
-Now, hit the arrow on the right side of the screen to go to the next page and select "Internet"

g33k4u.png

-Select "Connection 1: none"
-Select "Wireless Connection" then select "Search for An Access Point"
-Select "OK" then the Wii will display all the wireless access points(wireless routers) that are in range.
-Select the wireless access point you wish to use.
-If the access point requires a security key, you will need to enter this key in. This key is set when you first configure your wireless router.
-Select "OK", then "Save Settings", and then "Yes".
At this point your Wii will now test the internet connection.

If you are using a Wired connection then you can connect the Wii directly to the router or modem and not use WiFi. Wii LAN Adapters are sold separately. If you have the LAN Adapter, follow the steps above up to the point were you select a connection type. You will select "Wired" instead of "Wireless. The Wii will now test your internet connection.

I hope this guide has helped you connect your Wii to the internet. Enjoy!

Regards,
G33k

How do I set up wireless Internet on my wii console

Well, to start I assume you have a wireless network set up. If you have a password for it, get it ready you will need it. Then you have to go to the options for the Wii and go to internet and set up connection or something close to that there in the internet section. Then click on one of the connections and and chose wireless. Then do scan, and hopefully you know the name of your wireless and you would pick it and put in the password, and it should work.

I can not connect to the wirelless conection.

Hi santi_agu2,
You did not mention what type of console you have. Anyway, here are the intructions if you have a Nintendo Wii. Go to the Main menu by Pressing the A Button. Choose "Wii Settings" and go to "Wii System Settings" menu. Using the arrow on the right side of the screen, scroll to page two and select "Internet." Select "Connection 1: None" (if you don't see any connections just choose "Clear Settings.") Click on "Wireless Connection" and then "Search for an Access Point." Select the wireless connection that is yours and then input the router password. Select "OK," "Save Settings," and then "Yes." The unit will then run a connection test. After the connection test, the Wii console will check if there is a new Wii System Update available. Just select "Yes" and "I Accept," the Wii will begin to download any available updates. You will now be connected to the internet. All the best to you. I hope everything works out.

I am trying to hook up Netflix through my Wii and i can't seem to connect to my wirleless internet in my home. My computer's have no problem getting the Wi-Fi signal.

Reboot your wireless internet and move your Wii closer to the source of the wireless internet. Oftentimes the nintendo wireless receivers are far weaker than the wireless cards in computers or other wireless devices, so moving it closer should help. If this doesn't work, you can purchase a LAN extension for you wii and hook it up to the internet directly through a wired connection. Let me know if you need anything else.

How do you get the internet

select internet from the Wii settings screen, then go to the internet setup screen.
first, you should make sure you have a high-speed (broadband) Internet connection like cable or dsl. then, you should see if your network is wired or wireless.

if:
-your network is wired, then you have a LAN, and you can connect your Wii with the network with a Wii LAN Adapter which can be sold at www.nintendo.com

-your network is wireless, then you can use the Internet Setup in the settings to search for your access point. all you have to do is select the connection settings option, select an open connection indicated by "None", select wireless connection, select search for an access point, see if you can select your access point from a list (if it shows up), select OK, and select OK to test the connection

-your network is not wireless, then do you have a PC running Windows XP directly connected to your high-speed Internet connection? if so, then you can connect your Wii if you get the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector and use Internet Setup to connect with it.

we actually have the wireless router to connect to ours and it works perfectly. you can also check the Wii Operations Manual (gray book) for even more details. its on pages 51-59. you should start on page 51 though.
i hope this helped a lot!
