Question about OKI C9300 Led Printer

Error number 172

Printer just went bump after printing 30 pages and then on the Led window . . . Service Call . . . 172:Fatal Error. I have try nothing to resolve problem because I just had the mechanics replace the transfer belt. Can the thermistor (I think it is a thermostat) be replaced? My Fuser Unit has maybe 1,000 sheets through it & the life cycle is 80,000. Does any know what part is to be replaced? Thanks

Is there any repair that can be made to the fuser?
I think it is a fuse or (fuseable link) that blows if paper is ever jammed at the fuser unit.
The fuser unit it's self is in very good shape, barely used.
What do they replace when a fuser unit is refurbished?

  • sharkbait22 Apr 28, 2009

Can you please be more specific. Where do I locate the thermistor in the fuser.
and where can I purchase a replacement part?
Or maybe where do I fine an exploded view of the fuser unit?
    Thanks

Hi,

The answer to the question you asked would be : When the fuser wears on any copier they replace certain parts some of which are, the upper heat roller, lower heat roller, bearings, picker fingers, thermistors & drive gears.

However, in your case its the thermistor on on the fuser unit is damaged.

If we get that replaced.. this should work for you.

Thanks

This is the problem with the Thermal fuser unit. You need to replace it.

You can pull out the fuser assembly. To check if what specific part will be replaced. Specific parts on the fuser such as the "heating element", ( A bulb inside the fuser roller) might be busted, Gears that jump off ever turn on the fuser assembly, Teflon sheets or the tube might be rip off. This parts should be tested by a qualified technician to pin-point the specific part that is defective on the Fuser assembly.

You can use refurbished Fuser Assembly as long as it fits your printer, but the only thing about refurbished is that you can't avail for warranty. I myself use refurbished parts,...so far so good....

    Hope this info helps

That particular error indicates a fuser failure. Try turning off the printer and re-seating the fuser. If this does not clear the message then the fuser needs to be replaced. With such a low number of prints warranty should cover it.

Try:

1 Resolution may vary based on printer driver setting. Color ink droplets can be placed with a horizontal pitch of 1/4800 inch at minimum.
2 PPM print speeds are based on the highest speed printer driver mode. Photo print speeds are based on the default mode driver setting using Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy paper. Print speeds will vary depending on system configuration, interface, software, document complexity, print mode, types of paper used and page coverage. CPM copy speeds based on fast mode setting using plain paper. Copy speeds may vary based on document complexity, copy mode, page coverage and number of copies.
3 USB 2.0 Hi-Speed requires Windows XP, 2000 or Mac OS X operating systems. For Windows 98, Me and Mac OS X v.10.2 to 10.2.6 operating systems, the printer will operate at USB 1.1 specifications.

That is a fuser erron code. Abnormal temperature. You will need to replace the fuser. Sometimes I have sen a buildup of toner on the thermistor. If you can get to it. You can try to clean the toner off. Be careful. Very hot.
