Stihl weedeater was running and stopped suddenly. Put in a new fuel filter and cleaner air filter with soap and water. Checked spark plug and it appeared fine. Started the weedeater, ran for a second or so and stopped. Spark plug wasn't gas fouled. Could it be the carburetor needing new diaphram gasket and spring.

After removing the diaphragm to check appearance, it shows signs of stress. Removed filter and muffler, started the weed eater and it continued to run at full throttle. Letting up on the trigger would shut it down . Small drops of gas would appear inside the filter housing. Conclusion; I will replace the carburetor diaphragm, muffler, and filter. Should solve the problem.

Stihl FS85 starts fine, But not take full throttle

Pumping the primer bubble while the engine is running should cause the engine to over fuel and stall (if the tuning is correct). Sounds like its not fueling enough, pumping the primer is forcing fuel through the carb causing the engine to pick up rev's, but this is soon exhausted which is why it wont rev on the throttle.
* Check that the fuel line is not damaged and drawing in air. (if this is intact try the next step)
* Strip and clean the carb. Replace any diaphrams if needed.
* Check gaskets seal between carb, air filter and cylinder.

Just out of curiosity what standard carb settings did you use.?

My Stihl FS85 runs good for about 20 seconds and then shuts completely off. I have replaced the Plug, cleaned out the fuel system and it still does the same thing. Could it be the coil?

Sounds like the main jet or the diaphrams in the carburetor are deteriorated. Remove carb and soak in a good carburetor dip style cleaner and rebuild with a new kit. Also replace the fuel line and filter and use a fresh gas mix.

Even when I prime my 32cc craftsman weed eater. it will not start. i spray carb. cleaner in the carb. it will start and stay running. The problem I guess is cold starting problems. Any help would be...

hello sir, my machine will only start when pumping primmer bulb or squirting fluid in the carburetor than stops. the fuel line has broken off, in most small carburetors this is a ongoing problem.old fuel will crystallize when left in tank for a long time.plugging up ports, fuel lines, small screen in carburetor.fuel lines will dissolve clogging carb.this is why it will run when the choke is on creating a vacuum to where there is fuel forced in the carb to rum, also the gas will evaporate leaving the oil behind clogging up carb.the thing to do is remove carb. and clean out, replacing gaskets or fuel line if necessary.use carb cleaner to clean out carb.make sure to make note where fuel line go.the fuel filter broke off of fuel line letting debris get in carb plugging it up.the muffler is known to clog up a lot on these machines where they want run. the compression should be 60 to 120 lbs any thing below 60 is junk. when adjusting the carb screws turn in all the way than turnout 1 1/4 turns turn in slow until machine runs also you need to check for spark by removing plug and grounding against engine to check spark, ok.a new spark plug would be a good ideal too , if you are going to make these repairs use new fuel line and filter, hope this helps, any comments welcome, thank you, --

2 cycle Echo weed-eater is slow to start and once running it dies at idle. Only operates at near full throttle.

Stihl FS 110 brush cutter loop trimmer ''weed eater'' won't start. I've changed gas and spark plugs and it still won't start. Tool is 5 years old. Help! D.W. from NC

Check the fuel filter, you are not getting fuel so therefore the spark is not getting anything. You can also take some carb cleaner and clean your carb. This is a common carb issue and it needs either a new filter(recommend) and also some carb cleaner shot through the system
