Question about Computers & Internet

HPw2207h Monitor put into sleep mode and will not wake up. Have tried disconnecting everything, switching off and reconnecting but no luck. Screen starts off with the usual No Signal screen but then says Monitor going to Sleep. When I press Menu on front of Monitor it just brings up the Monitor going to Sleep message and then goes blank.

Have tried all the basics but still the monitor is saying Monitor going to Sleep. My computer is HP Pavilion m9170a PC (GX726AA)and it seems to be OK - just not waking up the monitor.

Thanks for that. Checked all plugs but still no luck. Have spoken to friend re problem and he says it seems as if it is the computer itself. When it is switched on the green light flashes for a couple of seconds and then goes off and the screen just shows the No signal screen and then the Monitor going to Sleep message. Computer was working fine last night until it was put to sleep via the screen. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated otherwise looks like a trip to the experts via my warranty.

Thank you for all your help. Probably is just what you say but have taken the tower in under my warranty. Decided that would be the quickest solution but appreciated your help.

Sounds like the monitor is not getting an input ( it will read "going into sleep mode" or "no signal input" by default if its not getting input... check the vga/monitor cable to make sure it has not come loose on either end

I'm confused as to how you're connecting this with s-video. Are you using an RGB / s-video adapter?

What is the exact monitor brand / model?

Hi to all, can you help me guys, i am having a problem with my Lcd monitor AOCTFT1560ps, my screen turns black after a few seconds and my OSD was locked..... HELP ME GUYS!! thanks

This link may help. You can try to do something if it is connected to a computer. If not, you can disconnect the video cable from both end and wait for 5 minutes and reconnect it. After your monitor wake up, use your OSD to disable sleeping mode, hiberation mode or turn off monitor mode within power options.

Monitor is changing colors and won't wake up

This problem should not be only with your monitor, but also with your video card. You might have left one image sitting for long hours. There is no specific solution, but for Lcd users, you can try this. Leave the monitor off for few hours without any connection, maybe power chord or vga/dvi/hdmi cable. If this doesn't fix then the problem must be from your video card. You can try the monitor on another system to make sure, which one is the culprit. Your last choice is to reset the bios, to do this, remove the bios battery and leave it for few minutes outside (2 mins will do) and put it back. Reboot your system, this will fix your problem. Good luck. Thanks for using FixYa.

Gateway monitor fpd2185w goes to sleep and then shuts off

I suggest to mess around with the monitor buttons and see if you can disable it from sleeping from there. If not then try enabling it to sleep on your computer settings. A good restart after any changes is always helpful.

Monitor will not turn on

My LG L19534H (analog) flat panel monitor began doing this too after two years of good performance in a Windows XP Pro environment. Here is my crude "fix": right-click desktop, hit Properties, select Screen Saver tab, hit Power button, and choose "Never" from the drop down lists for Monitor and System Standby. Hit OK to save changes. Yes...you're right...what if you need standby, etc. Don't know if it's video card starting to fail or not. Time will tell. Hope this helps for now.

I have a Dell Inspiron 530

I have a Dell Inspiron 530S, and it exhibited the same symptoms as rguggemos's & Wilburollie's.

I can put it to sleep, but when I try to wake it, it won't. The screen will stay black. I can hear the drives spin up, and the fans go on FULL blast, and the blue power LED stays flashing, but the computer will stay like that - no picture or anything. Then I'd have to press & hold the power button to force it off, then power back on. Not ideal.

The solution that worked for me?! On boot, at the "DELL" logo, hit F2 to enter the BIOS setup, go to Power Management, and change the standby mode from S3 to S1. The difference? S3 is a "deeper" sleep, w/ more components powered off, which is better, energy-wise, but it is more difficult to wake from. S1 is a "light" sleep. Give it a shot! Maybe it'll work!

Good luck!

- Mike

Stolen from another forum:

S0 (Working) is lit. The CPU functions in entirety; the conservation of power is on a basis of by-device.

S1 (Sleep). The CPU is stopped; The RAM is regenerated; the system functions in reduced power.

S2 (Sleep 2) The CPU does not have any power; The RAM is regenerated; the system is in lower mode of the S1.

S3 (Standby) The CPU does not have any power; The RAM regenerates at minimum; the power supply unit is in mode of reduced power. This mode is also called “Save to RAM”.

S4 (Hibernate). All is powered off, but the memory was saved like temporary file on the hard drive. This mode is called “Save to disk”.

S5 (Off) Everything is shutdown. Means you need a full reboot.

When I select sleep or hibernate mode - the monitor stays black...

Hit the keyboard keys. It is better to just turn sleep and hibernate off and just use a screen saver or tun it off.
