Question about Philips TS2768C 27" TV

1 Answer

TV seems to be "stuck" in VCR mode after power surge

We had a quick power surge and three of our TV's were on at the time, all are plugged into surge protectors and all but the Phillips Magnavox came back on with no problem. The Phillips TS2768C107 Smart series comes on and can play DVD's, however it is not recognizing any cable channels. I have tried the TV/VCR button on the remote as well as through the on-screen menu, however it keeps defaulting back to the VCR/AUX mode when looking for cable channels. I have unplugged all components and the TV for several hours and then just hooked the TV up and it is still showing the VCR/AUX mode when turned on. Any Help is Much Appreciated! Thanks!

Your tv is playing dvd means your video &sound section is ok. as it is not playing cable means that there a problem in tuner section only. if cable connection &its socket is ok.

Would you like to program the Universal Remote that came with your Dish Solo DVR VIP 612 to control your receiver, tuner, stereo, second TV or second VCR using your remote's AUX mode? (Instructions to setup a primary TV or a VCR are a little different, but can be found here.)

e818a57.jpg

To setup your Dish Solo DVR VIP 612 Universal Remote, follow these steps to enter the remote control codes to control a device with the AUX mode:

  1. Turn the device you would like to control on.
  2. Find the brand name of the device you would like to control in the control code tables on page 112 of the Dish Solo DVR VIP 612 User Manual.
  3. Press and hold the AUX mode button until all the other buttons light up, and then let go. The AUX mode button will flash.
  4. Press 0 for a TV, 1 for a VCR, or 2 for a receiver, amplifier or tuner.
  5. Enter one of the three-digit codes from the tables in the manual.
  6. Press POUND (#). The mode button will flash three times.
  7. Press POWER to turn off the device. If the device does not turn off, skip to step 9.
  8. Turn the device back on and try some of the other buttons to make sure they work. If the code works, stop here.
  9. If the code didn't work, repeat steps 3 through 7 with the next device code from the tables in the manual.
Your device control codes for your amplifier or other AUX device are now programmed into your DISH Solo DVR ViP 612.

Now you probably want to set your Dish Solo DVR VIP 612 Universal Remote up so that it always controls the volume of your stereo, rather than of your TV, regardless of whether it is in SAT, TV, VCR or AUX mode. Help for this remote control programming can be found here.

(Help for programming a TV or VCR using the TV or VCR mode buttons can be found here.)

I hope that helps.

What is DISH Solo DVR VIP 612 Limited Mode?

You can program your remote control in Limited Mode to keep from accidentally changing the channel on your TV or VCR and causing a snowy or blue screen.

  • When the remote control is in Limited Mode for TV mode, you will only be able to use POWER, MUTE, and VOLUME functions for your TV.
  • When the remote control is in Limited Mode for VCR mode, you will only be able to use POWER and the VCR functions for your VCR.
Note: Limited Mode is not used with amplifiers (AUX mode).

I hope that helps.

TX-47F430S seems to be the common problem of going back into standby. Powers up shows the logs and then goes back to low power. The light never goes blue. The fiber optical laser turns on and stays on but...

This is known as SLEEP MODE / STANDY MODE problem.

Simple solutions:
1. Get a power surge protector / strip.
2. Plug your TV power cord to the power surge.
3.Then turn-on your TV using the remote control2_bing.gif. Just in case it won't go all the way to normal state.
4. Turn-off the switch of your power surge like 5 times with an interval of 3-5 seconds.
5. Then repeat step 3 and 4.
6. These steps are done to over-ride the sleep mode.

Change the batteries on the remote, point the remote at the Sony, and hold in the power button for 5-7 seconds. Then depress and re-press the power button - see if you can get the tv remote to respond again.

Then, always try the quick reset:
How to perform a power reset on a Sony® television.
  1. Turn off the television. IMPORTANT: For a projection television that uses an internal lamp, wait 5 minutes after turning off the television to allow the lamp to cool before continuing with the following steps.
  2. Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
  3. Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet. NOTE: If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.
  5. Turn on the television.

I had the same thing - one long red flash followed by four short red flashes. Plugging and unplugging the power cord had no affect until I also unplugged all the cabled connections to the VCR and DVD player as well. Also, per the manufacturer's instructions, I unplugged the power cord from the surge protector and plugged it into the main wall outlet (which I tried first, but did not finally have success until I cycled the power cord unplugging process with all the cabled connections to the auxilliary devices unplugged as well).

VCR stuck in auto time set mode

One possibility is that the power supply section isn't providing the correct voltages. If you have a little tech savvy, and a volt meter, check the output voltages. There should be a +5 volt line, +12 to +14 volt line, and perhaps a -40 (approx) volt which supplies the display. Early VCRs often had this latter voltage, but later ones not having much of a display might not. Anyway, check for these voltages- the +5 volt should be right on within .2 volts (4.8 - 5.2volts). If this voltage is off much more than this, problems are likely. Defective components would likely be the electrolytic capacitors in the power supply, most of which are used to filter those noted voltages. If by chance one or more caps. is defective, replacements are found at Digi-Key Corp. Their Panasonic FC capacitors are what I generally use for most of these replacements. Mouser Electronics will have suitable parts too. Beyond this problem, maybe an erratic mode switch, or other logic problem. The kind of problem you describe may be difficult to diagnose. If this is a late VCR (10 years old or less), most of these are of the disposable variety, unlike the old rigs which were built like tanks, comparatively speaking.
