Hi Princess Tina,

It sounds like the registry keys needed to recognise and open msi files are missing or incorrect.
Paste the following into a new file (eg. with notepad) and save the file with a .reg extension. setupmsi.reg will do ok. Then double click on the saved reg file and add the keys to your registry. (The first line "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.0" must be the first line in the file).

Hi there. If you do mean the .msi file extension, then there may be a couple of reasons why Windows doesn't recognise them.

1) You don't have the appropriate program installed (i.e. you need Adobe Reader to view .pdf files)

2) You may have registry errors

The most common use of the .msi file extension is Windows Installer. Make sure you have the most current version, which is 4.5. You can download version 3.1 from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=889482fc-5f56-4a38-b838-de776fd4138c

Once you have version 3.1, you can upgrade to 4.5 here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=5a58b56f-60b6-4412-95b9-54d056d6f9f4

You may need to install/update your .NET Framework. This will depend on the version that was used with the above programs. If you're not sure, download .NET Framework 3.5 from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=333325fd-ae52-4e35-b531-508d977d32a6

And then you can update to .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=ab99342f-5d1a-413d-8319-81da479ab0d7

To check and clean your registry, use Microsoft's OneCare Safety Scanner. It's free to use.

http://onecare.live.com/site/en-gb/default.htm

If you are using Vista, then click on the beta edition. This will run a full scan.
If you are using XP, then you can run a full scan, or if you just want to clean the registry, click on Clean Up.

Hope that helps

How to Load or Reload"HP Digitalmedia archive" file and 'EZARC.msi to my HP Pavilion a1520n desktop. (XP)

Try this one:
This document pertains to HP and Compaq Desktop PCs with Windows 7, Vista, and XP. An error appears that contains a filename ending with MSI. (MSI refers to the Windows Installer.) This error can appear while Windows is starting up or when a particular software program is opened. This error might appear after using a Registry Cleaner or Registry Fix tool.
See the following error examples. Your error might be slightly different, but it has a filename that refers to or ends with MSI.
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'TrayApp.msi' in the box below.

  • If errors persist, you can clean up the MSI registry entries by using Microsoft's automated solution. For more information, see Fix problems with programs that can't be installed or uninstalled (in English).
Preventing MSI errors To prevent these errors from occurring, make sure that registry cleaning and spyware removal utilities do not remove files and registry entries associated with your software. Instead, if you no longer use a particular software title and want to remove all references from the registry, remove the software by using the Add or Remove Programs tool in Control Panel. The software uninstaller will remove the associated entries from the registry.
Some products available for free on the Internet suggest that the registry needs regular maintenance or cleaning. However, use extreme caution when installing and using a registry cleaner. Many registry cleaners generate other MSI errors because they do not recognize valid registry entries and delete them. This can cause more MSI errors and prevent other programs from working.
If you do decide to install a registry cleaner, be sure to research the product thoroughly, and then download and install programs only from software publishers that you trust .

How many times I click my windows media player, it didn't appear. I don't knnow why..!

Have you installed any third party players? Did you try to make any changes to the computer prior to this issue? Are you getting any error messages or error codes? You may try the following steps to rebuild the Windows Media Player Library database and check if it works. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, click Run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player, and then click OK. 2. Select all the files in the folder, and then click Delete on the File menu.
Note You do not have to delete the folders that are in this folder. 3. Restart Windows Media Player. If this does not resolve the problem, clear the Windows Media Player database cache files. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Exit Windows Media Player. 2. If you are running Windows Vista, click Start, click Run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft, and then click OK. 3. Select the Media Player folder, and then click Delete on the File menu. 4. Restart Windows Media Player. For more information, you may refer the following article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925718 You may try to install quicktime and then media player might use the codec to play .mov files. Note: Using Third Party Software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of Third Party Software can be solved. Using Third Party Software is at your own risk. It just, no application can open that file so windows is suggesting to search for application to open/run that kind of files. Say example you have pdf file and you don't have adobe reader or application that can open pdf format it will flag that kind of message for you to be able to view/run it.

Problem downloading Itunes on Dell P.C.

    try the following procedure.

first, head into your start> control panel >Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.

next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC.

Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

next, use the the following document as a guide for manual removal of leftover itunes and quicktime program files:

Removing iTunes and QuickTime for Windows

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925?viewlocale=en_US

now try to install itunes again. does it go through properly this time?

If not then also try installing latest windows installer software

(Sometimes an iTunes entry or QuickTime entry doesn't show up in cleanUp, in conjunction with a missing .msi message, if there's an older version of the Windows Installer on the PC.)

I can not install OfficeSuite. I have Windows Vista home Premium. I had downloaded updates all afternoon and it still shows error 1719 Window installer not correctly installed. Help!

    Download:Windows Vista Service Pack 1

I tried personally in WIN-XP worked same applies to Vista.

    Error Message:
Error 1719. The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. You may be running in safe mode or Windows Installer may not be correctly installed. Translation:
This message might appear when you’re trying to add or remove a program that installs via a Windows Installer MSI (Microsoft Software Installation) package file. The Windows Installer Service is the standard method for installing and uninstalling software on Windows XP. It keeps track of all of the components that need to be installed for a particular program to run and ensures that any files that are shared by programs are not removed when one of those programs is uninstalled. The Error 1719 is an indication that some Windows Installer Service files are missing or have become damaged. Solution:
The first thing to try is re-registering Windows Installer in the Windows registry. Make sure that no other programs are running and then click Start, Run, type msiexec /unregister in the Open field, and click OK. Next, click Start, Run, type misexec /regserver in the Open field, and click OK. Restart your computer and try installing or uninstalling again.

If you’re still getting the error message, the next step is to try reinstalling the Windows Installer files. In order to do this, you’ll first need to rename the existing files.

First, click Start, Run, and type msiexec /unregister in the Open field, and click OK.

In My Computer, click Search and locate the following three files: msi.dll, msiexec.exe, and msihnd.dll. They are hidden files so you’ll need to select Search Hidden Files And Folders under More Advanced Options. When you’ve found the files, rename them, by removing the .dll and .exe extensions and replacing them with an .old extension(for example msi.dll becomes msi.old).

Once you’ve renamed the files, WinXP will automatically replace them with a new copy from the dllcache (a hidden folder where copies of important system files are kept in case you mistakenly delete or rename critical system files). Restart your computer and try to install or uninstall the program again.

Finally, if neither of the above processes corrects the problem, boot into Safe Mode, and go through the above steps again, first re-registering and then reinstalling.

    or

    Go through the following links:

The contents of this file cannot be unpacked. The executable you are attempting to run has been corrupted.

When I try to install the software, I get an error message. The installation just quits. trnsp.gif Answer An installation error is defined as any issue or error that prevents the Setup program from fully completing the task. Installation errors can manifest themselves in several different ways. One common installation problem is the Setup program is interrupted with a message indicating some type of problem. Another type of installation error is when the Setup program simply disappears or doesn't complete for any reason. When Setup is interrupted with an error
Many installation issues will be accompanied with an error code and then an error message that identifies the problem. Because the camera software uses the Windows Installer, the exact definition of the problem can be obtained by looking up the error code on Microsoft's website. Two common errors are Error 1904 and Error 2711.
When Setup simply disappears or doesn't complete
Note: When installing software, administrative rights are needed to install all the files for camera software. If you are logged in as another user without administrative rights, the software may not install/function correctly.
First try booting clean. If you are using Windows XP, Windows Me, or Windows 98, click here for instructions on booting clean. If you are using Windows 2000, click here for instructions on booting clean. Once you have booted clean, then try to install the camera software.
Since booting Windows clean may disable CD-ROM support, we recommend you download the latest camera software for your camera and use the download file to install after you have booted clean.
    All other installation issues
If you are unable to find a solution to the installation issue given the above information, please try the following suggestions. After each suggestion, try running the installation program again.
    1. Reinstall the Windows Installer. This Windows Installer engine can be downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?ReleaseID=17343
    2. Windows 2000 Only. Stop the Windows Installer service and reboot the machine. To do this:
      1. Right-click on My Computer
      2. Choose Manage
      3. Click on the plus (+) sign next to Services and Applications
      4. Click on Services
      5. On the right side on the pane, double-click on Window Installer
      6. Choose STOP
      7. Reboot the computer.
If the service was already stopped, try starting the service, then stopping the service and rebooting.
If following through on the specific instructions above do not resolve the issue, please try the following standard diagnostics:
    1. Try a different installation media. For example, if you are attempting to install the camera software via the CD, download and install the latest web release. If you are trying to install the web release, try the camera software CD. Please note, the latest software can be downloaded here.
    2. Run ScanDisk and Disk Defragmenter. Both of these utilities can be found in the Accessories program group of the Windows Start Menu.
    3. Search for and delete all TMP or CHK files.
For Windows 98 and Windows Me Users:
      1. Click on "Start", "Find" and choose "Files or Folders".
      2. In the Named field, type *.TMP and click "Find Now"; delete all files found.
      3. Repeat this procedure with *.CHK.
      For Windows 2000 Users:
      1. Click "Start", "Search" and choose "For files or folders".
      2. In the Search field, type *.TMP and click "Search Now"; delete all files found.
      3. Repeat this procedure with *.CHK.
      For Windows XP Users:
      1. Click "Start", "Search".
      2. In the "All or part of the file name" field, type *.TMP and click "Search;" delete all files found.
      3. Repeat this procedure with *.CHK.
    4. Empty the TEMP directory; this folder may contain files that are interfering with the installation. To do this, use the following steps:
      1. Right-click on My Computer and choose Explore.
      2. Click on the plus (+) sign next to the C drive.
      3. Click on the plus (+) sign next to the Windows directory. (For Windows 2000, it is the WINNT directory.)
      4. Click on the plus (+) sign next to the Temp directory. The right side of Explorer will display the contents. Select all the files listed in the Temp folder and delete them.
    5. Reboot the system and try installing the software again.
