Question about Dryers

The dryer is leaving what looks like brown burn marks on clothes

I have a Whirlpool stacked washer and dryer, and the dryer keeps leaving little brown burn marks on the clothes. I've taken the dryer vent completely off the back and blown out the line, so it's not plugged as the clothes were not getting dryed well enough in one cycle, but the burn marks are still happening and getting worse I think.

No, the brown marks are about an inch long and about 1/4 of an inch wide, but they vary in size. I've seen them on white or light colored T-shirts and they could be anywhere from the middle of the shirt or really anywhere. The drum is just a white drum, no speckels. Thanks.

Would you be referring to small brown spots on the collar points of white mens dress shirts, or at the bottom of the front tails ? If so, check baffles on inside of drum for rough spots. Is the drum speckeled ? Blue and white porcelain?

The marks are coming from your dryer seal. I had the brown mark problem on my Whirlpool LER4634EQ1 Dryer. It turns out that the inner drum seal wore the paint off the pilot diameter on the inner wall. The pilot diameter rusted and the rust transfered onto the seal. The marks on the clothes are rust marks. I replaced the seal on my dryer, but don't know how long it will last. You may need to try and paint the pilot diameter. The seal with glue was $34 delivered from pcappliancerepair.com. Here's pictures of the rust: http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/ZeeVert/Whirlpool%20Dryer/

sometimes lint can build up on the back side of the dryer drum and get burned then the dryer will dump the burnt lint in the drum . most dryers have a double element and when the one side goes it breaks in two and only puts out half the heat if you are mechanical take it apart good tip take pictures with a camera and white paper tape to label wires if attempting to take apart un plugg

Usually, if you are getting brown streaks or marks on clothing, one or both of the drum seals are going bad. Clothing will drag between the bulkhead and the drum, leaving brown marks. If you want to do the repair yourself, I can provide instructions, otherwise call for service.

Parts of clothes get stuck in edge of dryer...seems to burn them.

I have had this same problem with my stack-able dryer. It was leaving small burns on my kids clothes and my good sheets. My dryer has a felt-like seal at the front of the drum. If this seal is worn, torn, or missing, the clothes in the dryer can get caught and scorched or torn in the space between the clothes drum and the front of the dryer interior. My seal was worn out, so I needed to replace it. I had someone come in and do the work the first time but when it wore out again I just order the part and replaced it myself. It is fixable:)

Brown smudges on clothes

Take a look and see if the drum near the door moves up vertically. It shouldn't move more than 3/16ths of an inch. If it does, replace the upper felt seal/plastic slide. The upper seal that supports the front of the drum on the front of the dryer is worn out to the point that clothes can get stuck in the gap between the drum and the front of the machine. This leaves brown wedge marks on clothes. While it's apart, replace the lower felt seal as well.
