Question about Bosch PowerStar AE9.5 AE9.5 Point-of-Use Electric Tankless Water Heater...

1 Answer

How to wire it to the breaker

This is an electric wiring problem. I want to install a tankless electric water heater in a remote bathroom. It requires a 220 V 40 amp service. I have the 2 pole breaker, 8 gauge wire (8/2), and the device. The guy at Home Depot told me to connect each of the two wires (excepting the ground, of course) to each of the two breaker contacts, and the other end to the device. But, there is no "Neutral" lead. I he right? Sounds fishy.

He is right, there is no neutral in 220VAC. Each leg is 110v to ground but since they are "off phase" they are 220v together.

AE 125 Just Stopped Working Altogether,,,Still Has Power But No Light Or Hot Water?

Turn circuit breakers fully off and then back on.
Use nose to smell for burning inside main panel.
Make sure you are getting 240Volt and not just 120V from one leg of the breaker.
Do stress test on breaker panel.

Least expensive solution: Replace tankless computer for $285 buying tank-type electric water heater from local box store.

If tankless computer is new, then call installer.

How to wire tempra 24 plus

1) Copy following link for wiring tankless electric water heater:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-Tankless-electric-water-heater.html

2) Look at label on side of unit for total KW

3) Product manual shows 24 Kw or 24,000 watts
24,000 watts divided by 240 volts = 100 amps
So your service panel must be about 250Amp rating to support this tankless electric water heater.
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Tempra_tempra-plus-Tankless-electric-water-heater-manual.pdf

4) Look inside the unit to see how many L1L2 terminals show.
You should have two sets L1L2 terminals
http://waterheatertimer.org/images/Terminals-2-tankless-200.jpg

5) You need TWO 60 amp double pole breakers to supply power to this unit.
This means you need TWO #6 wires from one breaker going to L1L2.
And you need TWO MORE #6 wires from 2nd breaker to other set of L1L2 terminals.

How many wires does it take to wire a bosch ae125 tankless water heater

You need three #8 wires for AE125. Two #8 wires for AE115.

1) Copy following link for wiring information:http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-Tankless-electric-water-heater.html

2) The AE125 has 3 elements, and requires 3 wires. Each wire is sized #8 copper, and is connected to 40 amp breaker, up to 100 feet. Over 100 feet, use 50 amp breaker and #6 wire. Oversizing breaker and wire is smarted and more efficient than undersizing.

3) Often a separate subpanel is installed to provide 3 extra spaces.

http://waterheatertimer.org/images/Main-subpanel-Tankless-600.jpg

4) Makes sure main breaker panel can accept additional 120 amps of draw without overampping panel ... and starving other appliances of full power.... that will damage appliances, overheat motors, and damage main panel and overheat main breaker. You want to oversize, not undersize electric service when installing tankless electric, which is why I do not recommend tankless electric installation, including issues of costing more to operate, and expensive repairs, and general money risk-nuisance of owning tankless vrs tank-type heater.

Electric shower just installed cuts out at fusebox after being on for about a minute

10-20-12
Circuit breaker is tripping on electric shower?

This could be absolute danger until more information is known.

1) Breakers trip because they sense heat, because the wire size is too small, or breaker size is mismatched with wire. Or breaker is loose on busbar.
Copy following links to determine correct wiring and breaker:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Color-codewire.html
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-Tankless-electric-water-heater.html

GFCI circuit breaker will trip because of same heat condition described above, and also trip if ground fault is detected.
Water leaking into element will trip GFCI.
Absolutely you need to get this problem fixed before shower is put back into service.
Call electrician, or the installer, or the manufacturer, or all.

I need the diagram

You want wiring diagram? With recommended wire size?

This particular water heater has a factory-pigtail, and is direct-wired into octogon box, and appears to be 240Volt 6500 watts. Connect water heater to 40 amp breaker and 8 gauge wire.

Here is illustration:

Look at nameplate on device for amp and wattage rating to confirm exact power requirement.

Rheem rte13 standby (green) light not on

You might have crossover problem caused by bad faucet cartridge.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Crossover.html

The green standby light should come on when 240Volt power is applied. Page 6 manual.
Both red lights should come on when tankless is activated. Page 6 manual

RTE 13 requires 60 amp breaker and 6 gauge wire
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-Tankless-electric-water-heater.html
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Rheem-TanklessElectricUC_AP15447.pdf

Factory temperature setting is usually default 120 degrees.
Adjust temps page 11 manual
Thermostat calibration is always approximate.
120 degrees is not hot enough to burn the skin.
Exceptionally cold incoming water temperature can cause tankless not to heat enough hot water: install tempering tank to preheat water to room temperature.
Tankless cannot be exposed to more than 11 grains hardness in water. Delime tankless yearly, clean water filter monthly, do not install low-flow restrictions or conserve water since the flow rate must remain high for tankless to activate.
Rheem does not post service manuals for their tankless water heaters.

2) As a note: When the motherboard on a computer or phone needs replacement, most people figure the device is about used up. The same is true for tankless.
Despite promotions claiming longer life, tankless warranty is not longer than warranty for typical tank-type water heater.

3) Fix most tankless problems yourself, same day, for $300-400
