Question about Sta Rite Sta - Rite Mod Media 450 Sq Ft Cartridge Filter and 1.5 Hp Pump System

2 Answers

I have a Sta-Rite pool filter. In the start up procedure, you are supposed to bleed the air until a steady stream of water flows from the air release valve. Although I have confirmed that everything is installed correctly, I cannot get a stream of water to flow from the air release value and the pressure gauge remains at zero.

First make sure water level is right, try leaving air valve closed and see if pressure bilds, then open slowly you should get a stream.

Hi sstanl, Is your pump output or flow normal back to pool? if there is no water flowing through system you will get no expulsion of air or pressure reading on gauge. If pump is working then you probably have a clogged air release valve and maybe a clogged gauge. Just remove air relief assembly from filter top, remove gauge and clear any obstructions in parts. You should easily be able to blow air thru assy with gauge removed. Teflon tape the components and snug them back in their places. restart your pump and voila! air will come out when prime is established.

My other solution does not appear to be visible, to me at least. Heres a recap. If pump moves water normally, then the problem is a clogged air relief fitting on top of filter. Remove gauge.Unscrew assembly from lid and blow thru it. If clear, insert a thin pick down the hole on filter lid. Turn on pump for a couple of seconds or until water gushes forth and then turn off, of course.Tape up the fitting and gauge and reinstall gently. good luck

Pump is running but not returning water to pool

If you have suction, you must have discharge. It is a law. Your water is going somewhere. Check for your water going to waste. Are you CERTAIN you have suction ? When I first read your question, I suspected a impeller with a spun out center. The motor runs but there is no pressure and no flow.

I have a sta-rite plm100 pool filter. I put in a new filter cartridge and now i have no pressure in my pool. what could cause this?

there might be trash in your impeller, and remember to always prime the pump after a repair. you can try running it without the filter in it as a check. and bleed off the air in the filter as you are running it also

Bear with me. my son has a above ground pool sta-rite system model JWPA5E7L-2A2 pump. he says the pump is running and sounds normal but he has very low suction and exhaust pressure. any ideas before I go...

Be sure that the pump gets primed, not always easy. Sometimes you need to examine the pump impeller. Debris sometimes restricts in this area.
look for an air bleed, near the pump, if you find one, you can bleed air there...

IF your system has to lift the water over the edge, as opposed to through the side, bleeding the air requires patience, sometimes. The pump quits pumping when it gets any air << an issue if you use a vacuum hose, you need to TOTALLY bleed the air out of the temporary hose, before hooking it up....

I hope this helps. Keep after it, you really NEED good filtering flow for clean water. After you finally get it going, have people put their hand over the discharge end of the system and make note of the volume and pressure felt there.... When taking in air or not pumping, it will be obvious.

I replaced the sand in the filter and had the gasket replaced. When I turn the pump on no matter what the setting all of the water comes out the waste port on the pump. I am getting very little water out...

Check your skimmer and pump basket for an obstruction that might be causing your lack of water flow to and from the pool. There could also be a restriction in your intake/return lines. Also, check for air intake in the return line (cracks or breaks). Any one of these issues could be causing problems with these sand pool filters.

Sta-rite gas heater won't ignite

I am not sure if either of these issues have been solved, but with the AGS light on, you will need to check the flow of water first. If it is below what is needed for the heater, this will light up. If the water flow is fine, then check the water temp on the display panel. If it is readin higher than that of the ACTUAL pool water temp, you need to replace the Thermister.

If the water temp displayed is about that of the pool water, then the Automatic Gas Shutoff will be the next thing to check and replace.

You can tell IF a Sta-Rite heater has been converted by the model number. The Convesion Kit is supposed to come with a sticker stating that the heater has been converted, but there are two options for the kit and the one without the sticker is cheaper.

If you take off the top two halves of the heater, on the Junction Box there should be a Tri-fold card there. Unfold it, if the model number ends with NA it is a Natural Gas Heater, LP would be Propane.
