Question about SmartDisk Computers & Internet

1 Answer

How do I create more storage space on my SmartDisk Firefly USBFF20. I would like to erase some of the files and add others. Is there a way to clean the disc and begin again? Deleting doesn't seem to provide the needed space.

Save the files you want to another removable unit ( gig stick---external hard drive ) then reformat the smart disc.

SOURCE: SmartDisk FireFly 20 GB crashed

What to do depends on what was stored on the drive. If you need to recover data bad enough I would recommend shipping the drive to a professional data recovery service. Doing anything dramatically decreases the chances of recovering all of your data. If its worth a try but not much money there are several programs you can buy (not Symantec) that may be able to recover your data but there is no guarantee. Let us know which way you want to go and we?ll pick up there.

There is no way to avoid this, I suggest you upload the music files to a computer first then reinstall them.

FIREFLY MODEL USBFF20 Has for 10 or 20 years (?) and stil works in my old Dell. I recently bought a new Dell XPS 8700 w/Intel Core 17. Now, the light comes on, it makes mechanical noises like something...

I would suggest that you go out and buy a current generation external drive, connect the firefly and new drive to your old dell, pull the data off and crush the firefly. Why would you trust any harddrive over 5 years of age with important data. Plus if I am reading the model correctly this is a 20Gb harddisk which is not practical for current backups or storage due to increased sizes.

You will need to try a file recovery software like Bad Copy Pro 4.10.125. If that doesn't work, then you will need to return it to the manufacturer to see if they can recover your files.

if you do not need the files on the drive then you an do a hard reformat on it by brining it up under the disk manager in windows delete the partition then create a new partiotion this sould give you access to all the space on the drive, if not then have it run a disk check for damaged sectors.

Where did all my disc space go?

Empty your "Recycle Bin" -- it's possible that the files have just "moved" from their original location, and have _not_ really been "deleted".

Or, right-mouse click on "My Computer", and choose "Manage". Click through "Disk Management (local)", and you'll be able to "delete" the partition(s) on the drive, and then "create" a "new" partition, which, of course, will be 100% "empty".

This sounds like your hard drive is too full. You have to clean up old or unused files to make hard drive space. Or, change the drive in your computer for a bigger one, or add a second drive to the computer to allow for more storage space.

Erase Firelite backups so drive is clean and I can start over

Empty the Recycle Bin -- the files that you "erased" were _only_ moved from their location into the Recycle Bin -- they still occupy just as much disk-space.
