I don't know how to use the darning on my bernina 950. Can you advise

You need to use a darning presser foot--there are several designs of darning feet made by Bernina or generic brands (be sure the generic model has the appropriate attachment for your particular Bernina). You can find metal or plastic, clear or solid foot, open or closed toe, spring-loaded hopper or not, etc. Drop the feed dogs. If it is thinner fabric (lighter weight than denim), it sometimes helps to put the fabric in an embroidery hoop (upside down with the fabric next to the needle plate). If the hole is small, you can use the little hoop that should have been included in your Bernina accessory kit. Then you manually move the fabric back & forth, up & down under the presser foot while stitching.

I have the dreamweaver machine and it uses the button foot for darning. makes a great stitch vertical but how to you make it make the horizontal stitch

Usually the stitch width selector would do that.

Um, just curious. If you are darning, you would manually maneuver the fabric to go forward and back and side to side. You probably wouldn't want to use a wide stitch for darning. Also, for darning, you would probably want to use a darning foot or free motion foot. They are both shorter than the standard presser foot so there would be no pressure applied to the fabric, especially when you drop the feed dogs. Technically, the feed dogs wouldn't be feeding the fabric, you would by hand.

How to bring sewing foot holder to embroidery position

Hi, I hope this helps. If it doesn't post again.
"Check:
Place the sewing foot under the sewing foot
holder so that the pins of the foot snap into
the sewing foot holder when the presser foot
lifter is lowered.
Please check that the sewing foot is properly
engaged by raising the presser foot lifter
."

Question: Are you using top feed? If so:
"For all sewing jobs with the top feed, only use sewing feet with Cutout at the back (OA, 1A, 3, 4)."

Embroidery foot Part No.: 98-694-840-00 will not work with top feed.

Also, except for eyelets, the darning foot can be used for embroidery.

I'm not sure what you're trying to do :) darn or embroider :); I'm not sure what mode you're working in either; embroidery mode?

Darning with straight stitch
Program 00
Fit darning foot No. 6.
Set the needle at its highest position by turning
the handwheel, and push the pin of the darning
foot fully into the hole of the sewing foot holder
slightly pressing the darning foot between thumb
and forefinger. When doing this, the guide fork
should place itself around the presser bar and the
wire must be behind the fixing screw.
Darning position:
Lower the presser foot lifter pressing it lightly to
the rear until it snaps into the darning position.
Important Only in this position you have the
optimum thread tension for darning.

• Place the darning work in the darning hoop.
• Lower the feed dog.
• Pull up the bobbin thread and hold the threads
when you start sewing.
• Now guide the fabric back and forth evenly;
the length of the darn will be set by the size of
the hole. As you are determining the stitch
length yourself while sewing with the feed dog
lowered, you should sew at an even speed.
When you have reached the width of the dam
aged area, darn over the damaged area again
from right to left.
This guarantees a durable darn.
TIP: The faster you sew, the easier and more even
the darning will be. It you are moving the workpiece
too slowly, small knots will appear on the
wrong side of the fabric."

Whether working with terry-cloth or woven fabric,
with the help of the darning foot and the pro
gram 02 you can embroider initials of your own
design

Drop the feed dog and insert the darning foot.
Put the machine into the darning position.

Spread the fabric in an embroidery hoop and
embroider in accordance with program 02.

Lower feed dog
If the feed dog is not lowered for embroidering, the
machine does not embroider when the foot pedal
is pressed and the message appea rs:
Lower feed dog

ok?
The feed dog must be lowered in embroidery
mode.

If you use the darning plate, do you need to have the darning /embroidering pressor foot.

You really do need a foot (just a smidgen shorter than a regular presser foot) that does not contact the feed dogs in order to darn, couch, or free motion stitch. The whole idea is that with this method the feed dogs will not move the fabric, but you also need the foot that allows extra space for you to freely move the fabric manually.

How do i install the darning foot?

Make sure that you have a darning foot that is compatible with your machine. I believe that the 7422 is a low shank foot; the appropriate daning foot is http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/darning-foot-singer-006016008.aspx . Lift the presser foot and remove the foot currently on the machine, including the ankle. (Loosen the screw on the left side of the ankle.)

Place the darning plate over the regular plate and feed dogs. The pins should lock into the spots on the machine.

Place the U-shaped opening of the darning foot over the screw that you loosened previously. Then tighten the screw to hold the foot on the machine.

Lower the presser foot onto your fabric. Set your stitch length. Lower the lever on the right side of the darning foot and hold onto your top thread (assuming the needle and bobbin thread are already threaded.) Now sew.

I hope this helps.

How to use a darning foot

Remove yourcurrent presser foot from your sewing machine, and attach the darning foot asyou would any foot. Darning feet look different, depending on the manufacturer, but most will maintain a "C" or "O" shape using eithermetal or clear plastic at their bases.

Drop the feed dogs, or use a cover plate on your machine if feeddogs are not available. If this is not possible, adjust the stitch length ofyour machine to zero or as low as your machine will allow.

Slide your fabric or quilt sandwich into place below the darningfoot. Lower the lever of the darning foot, and hold onto the upper thread withone hand.

Take one complete stitch, and pull up the upper thread to bringthe bobbin thread to the surface. Take multiple stitches in the same place tosecure the threads.

Run the machine as you free-motion sew or quilt your fabric piece, using your fingers to move the fabric instead of the feed dogs, until yourstitching is complete. Replace the darning foot with your preferred presserfoot when finished.

Husqvarna Sewing machine

The H foot is the Teflon coated foot and it is used when sewing foam, plastic, plastic coated fabrics, leather and imitation leather.
Yes, you can get a darning foot for the Lily. My foot catalogue shows part number 412 54 17-45 and it is called the Darning/Quilting foot. It has a clear oval shaped "foot" and a spring lever which is placed above the needle screw. When I owned a Rose (sister to Lily!) I actually purchased a Brother foot that was exactly (and I mean EXACTLY) the same as this foot for half the price of the Husqvarna one. So if you have a Brother dealer handy, try there.

I'm looking for a darning foot to use on my Quantum CXL so I can do free motion quilting. Is there one available?

You will have to remove the adapter for the clip on presser feet to use the darning foot - http://www.sewingmachinesplus.com/pd60-4021.php same as you would to use the walking foot.

How do I install my darning foot?

First, raise the presser bar, remove the presser foot, the presser foot holder and screw.

Turn the handwheel to bring the needle to its highest position.

Place the darning foot on the presser bar and make sure that the metal bar of the darning foot is above the needle clamp and put the screw back on and tighten.

As the needle bar raises and lowers, the foot will hop up and down slightly.

Make sure that you always lower the presser bar when using this foot. Lower the feed dogs also if your machine has this feature.
