Question about Canon PIXMA MP470 All-in-One Printer

2 Answers

My MP470 Pixma All In One prints lines across anything I do in color or ANY pictures/clip art even if not in color. I've put in new ink cartridges and have done all the print head alignment and nozzle cleaning. I can put a color master on the copier bed, however, and it will copy that just fine, so it appears to be a problem between the computer (Mac OS x 10.5.6) and the printer. I called an area Mac computer shop and they suggested I reinstall the printer. However, I have no software to do that and when I go to the Canon downloads I don't know which driver to download and what to do from there. Any help is greatly appreciated. THANKS!!

That doesn't help. I tried that and all I got was a desktop icon and when I clicked on that to open it, it was unreadable. I have to have something that will work on Mac OS x 10.5.6 and then I need to know what to do once I download the driver.

I have gone to both of those web-sites and neither one lists Mac, they are all for Windows and list all the PC's - no Macs

OK, I was able to download, but now what do I do? How do I get this driver to replace the one that is already on my computer. I tried printing and it just does the same thing, so I'm assuming I have to do some other step.

Yes, it just took a long time.

However, when looking under mac solutions to the reinstallation of your software all searches brought me back to that first URL I posted for you.

I'm sorry that the information i provided did not help. Here is cannons tech support number.

    Phone:

    1-800-828-4040

They will probably want money to send you a new disc, but that is probably the simplest way around your issue.

I want to use black ink only and stop wasting color ink

Hi,
Go to Control Panel->Printers. Then right click on your printer and select printing preferences. There you will see an option like Print in Grayscale or Black and White only.
However, please note that some printers although they are set to print in grayscale they also use the color cartridge and some even don't allow you to print in grayscale if the color cartridge is empty. Why is that? Manufacturer's way of charging you more money.

Canon MP470 prints fine in black and red. But the blue and yellow colors (or comination thereof) will not print out on the page. Ink cartridges are fresh, although, remanufactured ones from Nukote at...

Sometimes the remanufactured cartridges sit around for a time and the ink dries at the print head. Does the ink come out freely when you touch it on a damp paper towel? If not, this may be the fault. To clear the print head, I have heated some water in the microwave for 30 seconds and put just the print head in the hot water for a few seconds. If no microwave, use hottest available tap water. I have used a refill syringe to add a little pressure through the filler hole while in the water to purge the print head. I now refill my own, but have bought the same product and needed to purge them. I have the same printer. If this is not the cure , let me know, we can find the solution.

Canon MP470: "Print Head is not installed. Install Print Head"

Some printer brands have a cute scheme that reads a "new" cartridge as good, but the refilled one has a small fuse link that is burned out by the printer. Try factory new cartridges. Unplug the printer power for a bit to reset the printer.

Horizontal colored lines through grayscale printed photos

Hi George,

It sound's like an ink-feed issue:

1) Dirty heads, even after cleaning
2) No-ink or poor quality ink
3) Damaged head: some are part of the cartridge, some are not
4) Air bubbles in ink

The test page is typically not as hi-res nor as saturated as a
photo print. The hi-res photo puts the greatest demand on the print head.

The color lines you see are actually lines of missing color,
where the head has failed to deposit ink, so one or two primary
colors are missing from the complete picture.

For example missing yellow will make a blue line.
Missing magenta will make a green line
Missing cyan will make a red line.... etc..

Clean the heads again and again, print again and again,
hoping to flush the system.

BUT, keep in mind that cleaning wastes huge amounts of
ink and tiny little cartridges of ink cost more than many new printers.
