SOURCE: followed replacement procedure for moen posi temp ...

Often time a Moen cartridge becomes very fond of it home and doesn't want to leave. I once stood on top of a kitchen sink just to get my back into it to remove a cartridge. That is a rare example.

Once the retainer clip is removed there is nothing to keep the cartridge in place except water minerals, lubricant, and suction caused by the lubricant. Frequently it will take a rocking back and forth of the cartridge to fully free it from it's confines before a good tug. If you don't use the white plastic tool that comes with the new cartridge, you could pull the center stem out only and that's all bad. Before installing the new one see if you can have someone turn on the house water for an instant while you hold a cup or glass over the hole for the cartridge. This will flush out of the valve body any particulate that might affect your new cartridge. The cup will help keep you and your bathroom floor dry.

After inserting the replacement as far as you can, place the tool back onto it and tap on it to make sure it is in all the way. Then use the squared end to put a wrunch on to you can turn the cartridge internally and align it for the retainer clip.

SOURCE: Had a leaky Moen Posi-Temp shower faucet.

I'm not aware of any problems with non moen replacement parts being the cause for a water hammer problem. Start with the simplest and cheapest correction which is using a moen replacement cartridge. If the water hammer persists then you may have to install a water hammer arrester in the plumbing system. This is basically a shock absorber in the plumbing system to stop the effect of water hammer. An arrester will cost you around $10 to $15 at your local plumbing supply shop. If you are not comfortable soldering copper then you will want to hire a licensed plumber to complete the work for you.

I had the same type of problem with an older toilet in my house. It developed a water hammer when it shut off after filling the tank. I replaced the fill valve with a generic universal replacement for about $10 and it stopped. Again sometimes the simplest fix will work. Let me know how it works out.

Only two possibilities here the diverter tub spout is not open all the way to let water to the tub only or the shower valve is installed up-side-down.

You will need to remove the old cartridge from inside the shower valve body and either refurbish it with new rubber seals and O rings or replace the cartridge altogether (preferable). It's not a complicated fix but the Posi Temp cartridge can be a bear to remove. Moen and Danco make special 'pullers' to make the cartridge removal go a little easier (sold at Lowes/HD and plumbing supply for anywhere between $15 and $35 but well worth it, IMO).

there is a clip holding the cartridge in place. You need to remove that and then there is a little plastic throw away tool that comes with a new cartridge that you use to break the seals loose on the old cartridge....then you use a pair of channel locks to grab the stem and pull it out. The new cartridge should come with detailed instructions.
If it is a moentrol valve...the part number is 1225 and if it is a posi-temp it is a 1222. Moentrol you pull out to turn on and then left and right for temp adjustment. Posi-temp just turns to turn on and you turn from cold to hot to adjust through the temp range.

My shower has been leaking for months. someone

turn the water off to the shower, sometimes you must shut down the whole house at the main ,near the water meter, then take the handle off slide the clip in front up and out then pull posi-temp straight out.replace posi-temp in reverse order.be mindful of the H/C indicator on posi-temp this will ensure you have hot and cold on right sides,if reversed just flip posi-temp.

Shower head leaks water when water is turned on

take out the cartridge from the fixture and make sure it has all of the "O" rings and stoppers.
look at the instruction again, make sue you are installing it the right side up. if all that, the shower still leak, then you need to talk to the place you brought the fixture, it may have a defective cartridge.
