Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

My Samsung monitor displays the message "Not optimum mode; recommended mode 1920x1080 60 hertz - Analog" - whenever I try to boot in a Safe Mode (WinXP). It works fine in a normal mode as well as in VGA mode (even with the lowest possible resolution). I manually fixed default settings in registry (HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG -> System -> CurrentControlSet -> Control -> Video): Xresolution=0x400 (1024) YResolution=0x300 (768), but it didn't help. It seems that VGA doesn't get current resolution settings when loading in the Safe Mode. However it's all right with the CRT monitor. Does anybody have an idea what should be done? - Samuel

  1. Navigate to the Control Panel in Microsoft Windows by left-clicking on Start, followed by Settings and then choosing Control Panel.
  2. In the Control Panel window, open Display.
Note: Depending on how your operating system is setup, you may not see the Display icon. To correct this, click on the link on the left-hand side of the Control Panel window that says Switch to Classic View.
  3. In the Display Properties window, click on the Settings tab.
  4. Toward the bottom of this window, click on the Advanced button.
  5. In the resulting window, which may or may not be tittled Plug and Play Monitor..., click on the Monitor tab.
  6. Locate the Screen refresh rate drop down box in the middle of the window. Under most circumstances, the best choice is the highest rate available. Depending on your issue though, the rate may need to be lowered.
Note: It is always recommended to keep the Hide modes that this monitor cannot display checkbox checked. Choosing refresh rates outside this range could damage hardware.
  7. Click the OK or Apply button to confirm the changes. If prompted, follow any additional on screen directions.

SOURCE: Samsung SyncMaster 931BF 19" Monitor.

This is because your screen is not compatible with any resoultion past 1280 x 1024. Look at your screen's specifications here: http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/200602/20060210090838125_BN59-00521A-01Eng.pdf (Page 76 listed as Maximum resolution)

If you want to go past that, you must purchase and/or use a different monitor. Just be sure to look at the Maximum Resolutions BEFORE you purchase a new monitor!

SOURCE: Windows XP operating system does not load.

You need to repair your windows xp installation.
Insert the xp install cd and power off - then power on your pc.
If the screen says "press any key to boot from cd" then do that.
It takes a while until you get to choose options.
Choose the repair previous installation option by pressing the R key when prompted.
Follow the instructions on the screen and you should be fine.

You might want to try going into setup and setting your boot drive options to DVD drive as your 1st, HD as 2nd and Floppy as 3rd. Put your windows disk in the DVD before boot and run the program from DVD.

Hey!

Follow the instruction below to solve your problem:
Restart your computer and enter Safe Mode (press F8 right as the computer starts booting up. Choose Safe Mode in the menu, press Enter twice).

While in Safe Mode, open Control Panel and go to Add/Remove Programs (Programs and Features on Vista/7) and uninstall the display driver software/drivers.

Restart your computer and boot normally. Now you should be able to see everything. Things might look bigger and uglier, that because there's no display driver installed. All you have to do now is reinstall the display driver. Use it's original disc or go to the manufacturer website and download the latest driver.

Good luck!
Pelu.

To term in the computer is the refresh rate of the monitor. Depending on the operating system it is done a couple different ways.

Right mouse click on the desktop and choose properties or personalize (depending on your OS). In windows xp click on the last tab to change the resolution. Click on apply then click on advanced, the monitor tab, to change the refresh rate.

In Vista, click on Display Settings to be able to do the above.

Not optimum mode

This means your computer windows resolution is not display in the correct resolution which your samsung LCD will take.

What you need to do it boot the computer in safe mode. (pressing F8 at start up and select safe mode) This should bring the windows to start up in the generic 800x600 resolution.

Once you are able to see the display in safe mode, go onto the display properties and change the resolution.
* right click on desktop -> properties -> settings

Please rate this if it solves your issue. If you need further assistance please post.

I tried both suggestions above and neither worked. 1) Hitting the monitor buttons as stated only got me a "digital" message and then the monitor went black as usual. Never got to any menu options. 2) Going into Safe Mode and changing the monitor settings or downloading/installing the correct driver didn't stick once you went back to the normal startup.

I didn't have another monitor handy to swap out so I had to be a little more creative. The only solution that worked for me is re-booting (F8 during startup) into the mode "Enable VGA Mode". This allowed me to go into the normal desktop with a screen resolution of 800x600. I went online, found the driver, downloaded it to the desktop. Deleted the video driver (Device Manager), installed the downloaded version, rebooted and....no problems.
I have Windows XP. Hope I've helped someone today. :)
