Peavey bandit guitar amplifier problem

Hi, when i turn on my amp i get no volume, howeve if i shake it you can hear noise from the reverb and sometimes it will suddenly start to work. when turned off it stops working again. pluged into the power amp in on the back it works fine but this circumvents all of the controls on the front of amp i.e no control of volume, channel, equalization. it has been suggested it may be dirty pot on volume control as in past it would work if i turned it quickly back and forth over and over again. currently i have given up as even shaking it for a while has no result. anyone who can help would be appreciated.
Thanks Steve

Thanks for your reply, i already resolved the problem after 4 hours searching internet but must say am happy it is fixed. if anyone has a similar problem here is how i fixed it. plug your guitar cable in to power amp in , if this gives you volume then you know it is a preamp problem. next take a cable and insert to effects loop both send and receive and may solve problem as it did for me. i was surprised as i did not use effects loop but as etir mentioned things get residue from dust, smoke etc.. by doing this you bypass a switch which alows amp to function. next step is as etir said clean the inputs on the effect loop with lubricated contact cleaner. WARNING do not use wd 40 as i was told to by local music store and do not use rubbing alchol, will cause damage to the plastic .

Hello gotemneedem,

I would try using an electronic cleaner on the pot(s) to see if that helps. Many times either the surface of the coil, the wiper, or both become contaminated with excessive residue and fail as you describe. Shaking it or moving it quickly sometimes removes enough of the contamination for it to temporarily function again. But if you clean all of the gunk off, it will work like new. Try this inexpensive Radio Shack product. If it doesn't fix the problem, you'll need to replace the pot.

Hope this helps. If it does, please rate as "FixYa".

Can you repair a tear in a peavey guitar amp and will it affect the sound

I have to assume you're really meaning a tear in the speaker cone. If so, yes you can repair it if it's small and yes, it will affect the sound. Peavey Bandit amps have come with a few different speakers over the life of the name, but all will still be available either online or directly from Peavey's parts department. Here's the link-

I'm trying to get a crunchy metal sound from my peavey 112 bandit. What should I set my controls to?

Overdrive is the key to the crunchy metal sound. The only effect on that amp is reverb.
You may want to consider getting an overdrive pedal to get the sound you want.

Hi, Peavey Classic Guitar amp , Has NO SOUND

Hi Mike,

If you switch on the amplifier, do you hear nothing at all?
Or do you hear low level noise or hum out of the speaker?
Don't know if you're technician.
If the tubes are glowing, you can measure the high voltage.
Check also fuse 3 and 4, thats the neg. voltage -27V and -14V.

regards,
Gerard

Peavey bandit 112 reverb

It might just be the control knob. My fender's reverb went out and it was just the knob.

My amp won't play distortion.

Hello all you have to do is turn your master volume down to just barley on then turn your pre amp volume somwhere about 2:oclock depending on how much distortion you want ajust your volume on your guitar a little past halfway to give yourself some headroom in case you need to turn up some while you are playing! just think of it as your guitar is your first pre-amp then your amp is second preamp in line ,that is your over drive ,then the master volume is how loud you want the overall volume i hope this help's ya!
