Question about Refrigerators

The plastic water tube from the water valve (part # 894425) is leaking where it exits the valve. I cannot see any way to tighten the connection so that it will not leak. The leak occurs after the icemaker has filled and the water shuts off. The water in the tube drains down from the entrace to the icemaker to the valve, and leaks at that point.

None of your references addressed my problem, which is that the supply line from the valve to the icemaker is leaking at the valve, and there does not seem to be a way to tighten the connection.

The referenced video showed a leak at the point where the supply line enters the refrig, but that is not my problem. There seems to be a small collar around the tube where it enters the valve, but I cannot determine what function it has, nor how it could be used to adjust the connection.

I am sending a photo showing the exact location of the leak. I don't know how the water tube is attached to the valve, and therefore, do not know if replacing it would solve the problem or not.

If the valve itself is the problem, how is the water supply line inserted in the valve?

Well, I tried to send the photo, but don't know if it went or not. I expected to see it show up here!

I really do need to get this fixed.

Hello and welcome to FixYa. The white plastic tube runs to the freezer compartment. Look for a water line connector on the rear rear of the refrigerator shiny steel plate electrically controlled water valve that lets water fill the ice trays. Tighten or change the Compression Nut fitting when the nut suddenly gets very hard to turn stop tightening if the fitting leaks, tighten more. If the water is coming from the plastic connection replace the electronic controlled water valve. it should have hex screws holding it in place on most units. remove and inspect to turn off water follow copper tubing there's probably a cut off valve for the copper tube. Hope this helps . Please Rate Me.And you can always Ask ME. The plastic water tube from - wutxtye0rjd9d9ekmodqt1eoxkvn9hr9qjz1l3dabggyud7sdgr36czsrfxqenadhnijx9nfayi+sz1sug0aaaaasuvork5cyii=

Have you tried using Plumbers Tape at the leak? It is very cheap (about $1) and can be bought at any hardware store. Otherwise you may have a cracked part that needs replacing. Let me know if you need any further help in this matter and if you want to post a close up picture to better show me the problem if neither of the suggestions above prove to be right, that would be great.

HOW TO HOOK UP AND START THE ICE MAKER ON JSI_23

Good Morning Le Morrer,

I see that you are trying to hook up and start the ice maker on your Frigidaire refrigerator, model# FRS3R5EMB.

To connect Water supply Line to ice Maker inlet valve:
1 Disconnect your refrigerator from the electric power source.
2 Place the end of water supply line into sink or bucket. Turn ON water supply and flush supply line until water is clear. Turn OFF water supply at shutoff valve.
3 Remove plastic cap from water valve inlet and discard cap.
4 If you use copper tubing - Slide brass compression nut, then ferrule (sleeve) onto water supply line. Push water supply line into water valve inlet as far as it will go (1/4 inch/6.4mm). Slide ferrule (sleeve) into valve inlet and finger tighten compression nut onto valve. Tighten another half turn with a wrench; DO NOT over tighten.
If you use stainless steel tubing - The nut and ferrule are already assembled on the tubing. Slide compression nut onto valve inlet and finger tighten compression nut onto valve. Tighten another half turn with a wrench; DO NOT over tighten.
5 With steel clamp and screw, secure water supply line (copper tubing only) to rear panel of refrigerator as shown.
6 Coil excess water supply line (copper tubing only) about 2 and 1/2 turns behind refrigerator and arrange coils so they do not vibrate or wear against any other surface.
7 Turn ON the water supply at shutoff valve and tighten any connections that leak.
8 Reconnect your refrigerator to electrical power source.
9 To turn the ice maker on, lower wire signal arm (side mounted) or set the ice maker's ON/Off power switch to the "I" position (rear mounted).

After connecting the water supply, you will need to prime the water supply system.
To Prime The Water Supply System:
1 Begin filling the tank by pressing and holding a drinking glass against the water dispenser paddle.
2 Keep the glass in this position until water comes out of the dispenser. There will be noticeable spurts and sputters as the system pushes air out through the system and dispenser nozzle. This is normal. This may take about 1 and 1/2 minutes.
3 Continue dispensing water for about 3 minutes to flush the system of any air and impurities. Empty the glass as needed.

The water dispenser has a built-in device that shuts off the water flow after 3 minutes of continuous use. To reset this shutoff device, simply release the dispenser paddle. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

How to troubleshoot water leaks

Water leaks in a washer are often difficult to trace. There are many possibilities to look for. The problem could be a loose connection, a broken hose, a cracked component, or a defective seal. It could also be a hole in the tub. If a hole in the tub is the problem, it's usually best to replace the washer.

Most leaks can be eliminated by tightening water connections and replacing deteriorated components. To stop a leak:

-
Check the lid seal. If faulty, replace with a new gasket.

- Check the hoses at faucet connections. Tighten connections or replace hoses.

- Check the hoses at water valve connections. Tighten connections or replace hoses.

- Check the drain hoses. Tighten connections or replace hoses.

- Check the inlet nozzles. Tighten connections or replace nozzles.

- Check the splash guard. Tighten connections or replace.

- Check any plastic valve. Tighten connections or replace.

- Check the outlet hose to drain. Tighten connections or replace hose.

- Check the water pump, using the procedures that follow.

My Amana french door/bottom freezer is leaking water. Did the procedure with hot water the drain in back of the freezer, although it seemed clear of ice. That didn't help. The leaking stops when I...

Two possibilities:
1. A cracked plastic tube. These will leak whenever there's a call for water - either the chilled water dispenser, or re-filling the icemaker tray (two seperate tubes). Pay particular attention to anywhere the tubes are clamped to the chassis; anywhere they're routed near or under the refrigeration unit; and near the solenoid valve - especially if there's a tight loop in the tube there.
2. A bad (leaking) connection where one of the tubes exits the water valve. Again, these will leak whenever the valve is activated.

Those plastic tubes don't last forever. I've replaced many of them for the same symptoms. They're known to simply deteriorate with age.
Manuf's make good money selling replacement tubing kits.

Instructions for installation of amana water inlet valve 12544001

Hello,
I know that seems like the incorrect part but it replaces the water valve that had 2 outlet hoses connected to it. To replace that;
Turn off house water supply to old valve and disconnect tubing
remove old valve and unplug the 2 wire connections and the 2 outlet hoses
The two outlet hoses were what was considered a Y hose..cut off semi clear plastic tubing a inch back where the 2 semi clear plastic tubes merge and become only 1
pull one of the plastic nuts off of the Y tube
slip it onto the end of the newly cut single tube
slip single tube into outlet threaded outlet of new valve and tighten that plastic nut
connect the 2 wire plugs onto new valve
remount to back of refrig
attatch house water supply to metal fitting that has/had protective rubber cap over it (oh of course remove procetive rubber cap and discard it)
turn water supply back on
it may up to 4 hrs for water to flow to icemaker so best to test by dispensing water through freezer door

Good luck, any questions or problems please reply and i'll help you,
Gene

Having trouble starting installation of copper tubing for ice maker. How do I connect the copper tubing to the refrigerator?

The tubing connects to the water valve. You should loop the copper in a manner so that when you pull out the ice box to work on it the copper will not break. Snug up your compression nut to the valve. Turn the water on. If it leaks tighten it a hair till its tight. That way you won't over tighten the compression fitting.68bd8a2.jpg

A GE Profile Model, double door refrigerator with a water leak

If the leak is on the refrig water valve where the wall water line connects to , then use a 1/2" wrench and tighten the fitting on the water valve itself . If the leak is on the plastic tubing at the bottom of the refrig water valve , pull up on the small white ring while pushing down on the plastic tube to remove it from the valve . Cut off about 1 " of the tubing and reinsert it into the valve with pretty good pressure to be sure it is inserted completely .

The water connection valve at the bottom right back of the refrigerator leaks badly. Water seems to come from the blue plastic cap on the outside of the valve. Where can I get a part to repair this?

You need to reseal the connection. You have to turn the water source to frig of at the tap valve. You then have to loosen the connector for the frig the one that has the vinyl line running thru it. You will get some water out because water from the tap and vinyl line might be under a little pressure. Remove the nut and the vinyl tubing. See if it has a little ring over the tubing. If not slide the nut farther back on the tubing and cut tubing below the nut. reattach the nut to the blue valve, but don't over tighten the nut make it finger tight. open the tap valve slowly. The tubing will get pressure. Look at the connection that you just fastened to see if it is leaking. If it is tighten the nut a little more. This should stop the leak(do not over tighten the nut as this will cause the tubing to leak again. If there are no leaks you can open the tap valve all of the way.

LEAKS WATER WHERE WATER LINE GOES INTO FREEZER.

An easier fix is to redo the connection. Turn off the tap the supplies water to refrigerator, should be on your cold water line under the sink. Remove not on the solenoid valve(blue valve) slide the nut further up the vinyl tubing cut the tubing above the old connection. push the tubing into valve and tighten nut finger tight. turn the tap on a little and check for leaks at the solenoid. If no leaks open tap all the way. If leak tighten nut a little more only until leak stops. then turn tap on all the way.

Yep. Remove that tube from the valve, then pull that nut off of it. Now cut the tube back an inch or so put the nut back on (with about 1/2" of tubing sticking through it), put it back on the valve and tighten it good and tight.
