SOURCE: welding aluminum

TIG weding is next to brain surgery as far as CLEAN goes.
You must get your AL clean, either by 1. Clean with a NEW Stainless Steel brush or 2. by using a chemical from the welding house that is made just for that.
Your cup must be clean and your gas flowing at the right amount,no leaks in o-rings or hoses.
Hold your cup more vertical and keep your filler rod in the gas shield always,no in and out movement.
In short you must get everything perfect to get quality Heliarc Al welds.
Good luck, HowardRoark

SOURCE: Ground lead arcs when I connect, and auto idle kicks up

Hi
what are you connecting the ground lead to?

Is the welding machine phisicaly in contact to what you are welding ?

Can you electrically insulate the welding machine from everything, say stand it on a sheet of timber?

Regards
Rob

SOURCE: no weld output or 115v output

Hi
My name is rob, lets see if we can solve your problem

If the welders been working ok first question is what has changed, has it been moved or modified in any way?

Next, are ther any fuses or breakers fitted? are these ok?

Next, most engine driven welders have one major problem.
Vibration.

It shakes stuff loose, undos connections and damages static components,
Take some covers of to expose the internals and with THE ENGINE STOPPED check along the length of the cable harness especially at the ends of cables, give each terminal a tug with the cable to make sure there are no problems there. Also check the condition of the insulation of the harness along its lenght. at this point you may find a "hidden" in-line fuse somewhere in the harness if your lucky!

If none of this helps it gets a little more tricky, could you give me make and model? that would help a lot.

Regards
Rob

SOURCE: miller bobcat 225g plus welding problem

If the idle is not working, then it is either you idle solenoid attached to the carberator or your idle board is bad. If you apply 12Vdc to the idle solenoid is should move, if not then the solenoid is shot, no good. If it works then you idle board is bad. Also, check to see if you are 60Hertz by measuring at the outlet with a frequency meter. I recommend a Fluke meter. You should have 120Vac and 60HZ at the outlet. If the frequency is low then your engine speed needs to be increased. The idle solenoid could be causing all these problems.

SOURCE: I have a miller trailblazer

Hi:

Probably your machines just overloaded; the engine will run and produce voltage but no weld output.
Check your fuses F1 and F2, if they are open replace them.
Both fuses are located at left hand side of machine, open it and you will find them on the bracket.

Good Luck.

Changes between AC and DC voltage at the electrodes.

Q: What Type Of Stick Welder Works Best For All-Around Use?

A: A welder with an AC/DC output, whether its an electric arc machine like Miller\'s Thunderbolt or a gas engine drive like Miller\'s Bobcat.

DC welding offers advantages over AC for most Stick applications, including: easier starts; fewer arc outages and sticking; less spatter/better looking welds; easier vertical up and overhead welding; easier to learn "how to weld" and a smoother arc. DC reverse polarity (electrode positive) provides about 10 percent more penetration at a given amperage than AC, while DC straight polarity (electrode negative) welds thinner metals better.

Q: Does An AC Output Have Any Advantages?

A: Yes, if you need to weld on material that\'s become magnetized from friction, such as when hay, feed or water constantly rub against a steel part. A DC output won\'t work because of "arc blow," where the magnetic field blows the molten filler metal out of the weld puddle. Because an AC output alternates between polarities, it enables you to weld magnetized parts.

Check or replace ignition wire, spark plug spark plug coil. Run a cylinder compression check. Should have same compression on both cylinders. If not, burnt valve, or flat cam lobe.

Will not weld or arc , I bought my ranger after hurricane ke ask a generator, and never elded with it. today for the first time I tried to weld with it and it will not arc

Make sure the WELD TERMINALS SWITCH is in correct position.: In the WELD TERMINALS
ON position, the output is electrically hot all the time.
In the REMOTELY CONTROLLED position, the output is
controlled by a wire feeder or amptrol device, and is electrically
off until a remote switch is depressed. If you don't have your manual, you can download one at http://www.mylincolnelectric.com/Catalog/operatorsmanualdatasheet.aspx?p=104081

Lincoln ranger 250 voltage problem

Hi,
Check the current control resistor with an ohm meter. The center terminal should have a smooth rise or fall of resistance when measured to one end or the other of the resistor. If the resistor and the wiring to it are OK, check the shunt in the output it'll be by the "electrode" terminal. If both are OK you probably have a bad control board.

Carl
