Question about Hotpoint RGB745 Gas Kitchen Range

Open Question

I'm currently working on my Hotpoint oven model RGB747GER2, the oven ignites, there is flame but will not hold a temp. I put temp at 450 degrees I get roughly 190 degrees. I replaced the glow bar ( p/n WB2X9154) and also hard wired the probe (thermostat), cleaned out all the vents. Installed the new glowbar, I fired it up and does the same thing as it did with my old glowbar. This time I set the bake temp at 550. I placed a temp gauge in oven, and watched what it would do. The panel on the range read 535 degrees and never increased after that, but, the temp gauge in oven heated up passed 600 and the burning and glowbar still on, and still the oven panel stayed at 535 degrees the whole time. Any idea what needs to be replaced to get my oven back to normal?

SOURCE: hotpoint oven will sometimes preheat to temp,

if it's glowing but not igniting the flame in less than 40 seconds you have a lazy ignitor, change it out.open the draw unser the oven door and on the left or right side of frame not the door you'll see a tag with the model and serial number, give your parts store the model number and they'll give you the correct ignitor

My gas oven won't ignite, takes several tries to ignite it.

All gas appliances have a thermal cut out this will shut the gas off if the flame goes out the down side is when the thermal cut out becomes faulty it can shut the gas of when you are using the cooker the only fix is to replace the thermal cut out

Converted HotPoint RGA720 to LP, burners and oven work fine, all pilots flames are still too high?

I have this model too and have had to replace two thermocouples because the pilot is so high it frys them. We replaced the whole modulator last time and it still goes out so I have to relight The pilot is at the lowest setting, it's a GE/Hotpoint issue that was not recalled. I do like the hot 125 degree oven for drying sun dried tomatoes and keeping plates warm.

Hotpoint Gas Range does not hold temperature

We had the same problem, my husband took ours apart and noticed a loose wire off the relay board for the oven. So far it's working again, we had it at 450 for awhile and it kept the temp, then lowered it to 325 for 1/2 hour and it kept the temp, yippee! It better keep working, because he's cooking a ham on Christmas!

When set to bake eg: 350 degrees the audio alarm will indicate it's reached temp but the oven is 50- 75 degrees lower. Must wait another 15 min for it to reach the proper temp. Have tried to adjust the off...

If you are monitoring the oven temperature with an analog style thermometer you may actually be ok, but seeing the thermometers slow reaction time.
Some newer ovens actually do pre-heat beep prior to reaching temp in an effort to conserve eelectricity.
A good home test is to try your oven at several different temps to see if there is any variation in internal temperature. Try it one day on 300, the next at 375 and another day at 450. Give your analog style thermometer time to catch up (usually just about 15 min) and leave it on for a half an hour to see if the temp maintains.
Also Beware of aluminum foil AND THE NEW OVEN LINER MATS as they can alter oven performance bay absorbing and blocking the ovens natural heat radiation and convection air flow currents that happen in all ovens, not just convection models.
Another interesting fact is that older ovens used a thermostat in them that operated much like your thermometer and was very slow to react making the oven typically about 100 degrees hotter than where the customer set it. This was just a fact of life before the advent of electronic temperature management and became noticeable when people began trying to bake older "hand me down" recipes in the newer ovens with less than stellar results.
You can mimic the older oven performance by preheating the oven about a hundred degrees higher than called for and after it reaches temp, re-set it to the correct temperature and put the items in right away.
If you find your temperatures fluctuating ask your servicer to replace first the temp sensor and as a last resort the control board as this part is usually pretty expensive.
Good Luck with this!

My Magic Chef gas oven thermostat is not working properly. At 400 degrees it only heats to 200 degrees and at 500 degrees it only heats to 300 degrees. Do I need to replace it or can I calibrate it?

ther is a temp sensor that goes from the control valve to the oven, this may be the problem, make sure sensor probe is tight where it screws into the gas valve and other end is not just hanging in the oven, it attaches to the top of oven,if it's where it's supose to be, I'd change that first

You have to identify the thermocouple by the flame. Some units run sparks constantly to insure that tha flame stays lit. If you see the thermocouple bulb by the flame it is bad and needs replaced (he may have bypassed it also let me know)

It would be helpful if you have a multi meter. Sorry you are having trouble with the repair man. I hope I can talk you through this but if he has made a mess it could be 10 times more work for you. Txtooltime@aol.com

Soultion not viable

Any other posts have been blocked, so I don't know what you have been told or tried. Has the oven temp been OK until just recently? The range has not been moved or converted Nat gas to LP etc. recently? If yes to Q1 and no to Q2, I'd replace the oven sensor ( WB21X5301) and then reset control to +- 00. Sensor is the pencil shaped thing sticking out the back of the oven. Note: Your temp test method is not accurate enough to calibrate oven exactly. I take average temp after a minimum 3 on / off cycles using a digital calibrating oven thermometer to get them within 10 degrees of set temp.
