A wireless router and wireless network adapters can have interference issues with cordless phones. It depends on the network adapter frequency and the cordless phone's frequency. Most problems will occur with a phone that uses 2.4GHz. This frequency will interfere with 802.11b/g networks and single-band 802.11n wireless signals.

A DECT cordless phone operates at a different frequency from the 802.11g and 802.11n single-band and will not interfere with a wi-fi network with those modes.

However, some routers and wireless adapters can use the 5GHz range (802.11n and 802.11ac, among them). These can have a problem with cordless phones that use 5.8GHz. However, there is a simple solution to avoid much of the interference at 5GHz. First determine the frequency range of your phone by getting the FCC ID from the base of the phone. Then use Google or another search engine to find "FCC ID Search Form". It has been at http://transition.fcc.gov/oet/ea/fccid/ in the past. The first three characters are the Grantee ID for the search form. The rest is the product ID. Look for the SAR report for the phone and then (probably on the second page) find the TX frequency range and the Max RF output power tested. Now go to the wireless router's setting page and make sure that it is using channels that do not use the same frequency and power range.     It appears that your Wii console's Internet connection may be affected by wireless interference. Try the following:
    • Change your wireless router's channel to 1 or 11
      Changing the wireless channel on your router may help. Most wireless routers have a channel range of 1 through 11. The best channels to try are usually 1 and 11, as they do not overlap with other channels. Typically, the channel settings for your router will be found in the router's main "Wireless" tab.
    • Where is your wireless router located?
      Move your router away from walls and off the floor and try to place it in a central location in your home. Also, keep it away from metal objects such as metal filing cabinets which can cause interference.
    • Look for other devices
      Noise from cordless devices (cordless phones), or wireless electronics (wireless keyboards, headphones, cell phones), especially those using the 2.4GHz frequency, can interfere with your wireless signal. Also, older microwave models can cause wireless interference. Avoid electronics that use the 2.4GHz frequency, instead look for devices that use the 5.8GHz or 900MHz frequencies.

I've had a WGR614 for almost a year now. However, when someone uses the phone, I lose all wireless connection. Can you tell me what's wrong?


Your wireless router must operate on the same 2Ghz frequency as your phone. You can slightly tweak the wireless frequency your router operates on by opening your brower, then navigating to either http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1, and look under the wireless tab. There should be a selection list of what frequency the router is operating on, and tweak it by changing it to something else.

Phone interference


try looking into the settings of your router and set the channel to 6. this way the interference shall disappear, or at least be reduced. this may be happening because both of your devices use the same frequency (generally 2.4GHz). the channels were made to avoid these interferences, since wireless networks may work on frequencies close to 2.7Ghz.

My phones don't work they all say


Unusual problem on a new phone. Could possibly be radio frequency interference close by.

Some cordless phones operate on the same frequencies as in-home wireless networks. I believe this is the 2.8 megahertz frequency. The phones and the wireless networks can interfere with each other.

Most newer cordless phones are higher frequency (5.8 megahertz?). Wireless networks shouldn't interfere with those phones, but there could be other things that could (e.g., transformers on power poles).

If the phones are new, you might consider taking them back and getting another model.

Wifi interference??


The short answer is that it could interfere with the wi-fi, but your wi-fi should not interfere with your phone because it uses WDECT, "wide-band digitally enhanced cordless telecommunications" engineering. No matter how tight the bandwidth is on any RF transmission, power, proximity, and harmonics all play a roll. Ideally we want the power from our transmission to occupy the target frequency but the reality in RF is that this is nearly impossible without DSP filters. I have pasted some extra info below to help answer this question.

Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications
(DECT), known as Digital European Cordless Telephone[1] until 1995, is an ETSI standard for digital portable phones (cordless home telephones), commonly used for domestic or corporate purposes. It is recognised by the ITU as fulfilling the IMT-2000 requirements and thus qualifies as a 3G system.


The four most common frequencies today are 900MHz, 2.4GHz, 5.8GHz and DECT 6.0:

900 MHz Currentlythe most common frequency for cordless phones, 900MHz phones may offera greater range than other frequencies. However, the 900MHz spectrum iscluttered and may result in interference with baby monitors and other900MHz cordless phones. Radio scanners can also easily pick up thisband. 2.4 GHz 2.4GHzphones offer better clarity and security than 900MHz, but mayexperience some interference with microwave ovens and wirelessnetworking (wi-fi) products. 5.8 GHz Themost advanced cordless phones available, 5.8GHz phones transmit on anew, open frequency and have the least chance for interference. Theywill not interfere with wireless networking (wi-fi) products. DECT 6.0 DECT6.0 operates on the 1.9GHz frequency. Though newly approved in the US,this frequency has been used for many years in Europe and can increasecall clarity and security. The wi-fi friendly DECT technology easilyintegrates into homes with wi-fi and internet services because the1.9GHz frequency is exclusive to DECT, making it interference free forcordless communications.

Sorry. The MHz of your radio cannot be changed. And there are no "private" frequencies available for use. However, your radio is equipped with this in mind.

There are 22 frequencies built into the T5500, along with 38 Interference Eliminator Codes. The two combined offer you over 836 choices to avoid other people. And if this is not sufficient, they also have the capability Qt filtering.
