Question about GE Refrigerators
I have a GE GSS25WTGA BB side by side Refrigerator..... the freezer compartment gets warm and thaws the ice then re=freezes and leaves a big block of ice ... I have already replaced the mother board and unscrewed the freezer's light bulbs ( thought maybe they were staying on) neither of these fixes worked...any thoughts ?
This could be a dozen different things causing this. Do you see ice build up on the back wall? Your freezer coil could be icing over and blocking fan air flow. This can be due to a bad fan, low freon.....

SOURCE: Ice building up in freezer
Due to the frosting up, The glass defrost heater broke. Any good tech knows this happens. The defrost heater must be replaced. If this is a GE side by side. The new replacement heater has dual elements. The standard heater that was put in them, was not large enough to defrost the coils fully. Replace heater and you should be fixed up. I would also replace the thermostat while you are in the freezer section they are only like 15 bucks and this way you will have a new defrost circuit.

poss answer is drain hole/vent blocked,as unit auto defrosts water/vapour collects at bottom and when unit swiches back on it freezes, poke out drain with thin wire with a small piece of cloth dipped in clorine bleach or blow out with air hose.do not use hot water to manually defrost/ clean drain holes every 6 months

Is there frost on the freezer panel? are the two motor and compressor running (freezer motor and condenser motor)? find this out 1st. this is nothing you did but if you are not mechanically incline at this point only a frig tech can properly check and tell you exactly what is it. theres are the things it might be...
compressor not working
condenser not running
freezer fan not running
thermostat not sensing temp.
stuck in defrost
heaters on too long
timer not working
now if you paid alot for this frig at least get someone to look at it for a service call ($40-60) if it too high to repair then its time to get a new one

Your machine should have a limit thermostat as well as the thermister. It may payto change it first before the motherboard.
It looks like this, mounted on the top of the coil.
If that fails, and the machine goes back to normal cooling until the next defrost cycle, I can think of nothing but the motherboard as the culprit.
