Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

My shredder works fine but often there is a hi pitch squeal after paper has cleared. I lost information on maintenance for my OMX 15-sheet crosscut shredder. Please tell me how to lubricate the cutters or what I need to do to stop the sound. Thank you

SOURCE: Fellowes crosscut shredder does not shut off

Best to use the alcohol/cotton swab recommendation. When I first called Fellowes about cleaning the sensor, they told me never to spray compressed air into the shredder throat, but without much explanation. Later I discovered that the instructions on some of the compressed air cans specifically warn against using them to clear shredder sensors, as the flammable accelerant can leak out when the can is held at an angle and possibly ignite if a spark is generated by the machine.
This link will take you to the Fellowes FAQ page:
http://fellowes.com/fellowes/site/support/support_troubleshooting.aspx#dm12c

On the page click on "How do I clean the sensors on my (model) shredder."  I depart a bit from the instructions in that I don't replace the two screws on the throat guide. That way, I can simply slide the media guide toward the front of the machine, lift up the throat guide and do my cleaning. Much faster and, in my opinion, not having the throat guide screws in does not seem to pose much of a safety issue.

Try soaking the cutters with soapy water, yes it works. Oil after you are done.

SOURCE: staples spl-710sh paper shredder stopped shredding

This exact thing has happened to my unit as well. Ive disassembled it to discover that 5-7 teeth on the gear that the motor drives have been stripped off. Unless the gear can be replaced (which is probably not worth the expense), then the unit is toast. Sorry. Good luck.

SOURCE: Royal 85x crosscut shredder stopped working

Some shredders aren't designed to shred anything more than paper. Credit cards, staples, paper clips and the like could have jammed it up. Try running the shredder in reverse and oiling the blades. More help with paper shredder oil here: http://hubpages.com/hub/Paper-Shredder-Oil

If you can't get the paper shredder up and running, it looks like you might have to pick up a new paper shredder. Paper shredders can be pretty cheap though, great guide to cheap paper shredders here: http://hubpages.com/hub/Best-Paper-Shredders

Dynex shredder was working fine with no issue. After 5 days when plug in to used the light on the right side where it shows the top and bottom not align lights up.

Try running it in reverse if it has one. It may be clogged. If no reverse or that doesn't work, you may need to open it up and clean it.... UNPLUG IT FIRST!!!

Black and decker shredder will only go in reverse, when you try forward it makes a loud sounding noise and will not take the paper

Shredders require maintenance. They have moving parts that make lots of dust.

Check your user manual. Does it require oil or special oiled sheets? If so, you might be overdue for this maintenance. Also, check the frequency of how often you are supposed to oil/add oiled sheets to it.

If it won't accept paper in the forward position, then you might be out of luck with trying to run oiled sheets thought it. If it's still under warranty, see if they can repair it for you.

Dynex shredder only works in reverse

If your shredder is jamed with paper, the centre of your machine has a switch which is plastic. If there is paper under this switch it will prevent it from being pushed downward, it will not shred paper, it will only work in reverse. Unplug your machine and clear the paper jam so the little plastic switch will be able to go down and it should work. Hope this works for you.

I have a Royal 150MX Crosscut Shredder and I have to stop every few minutes to get the accumulated strips of paper off the cutting heads. Why does it keep wrapping? When it wraps the machine slows down...

OK first...15 sheets is absolute maximum; ie 1 more sheet and it dies!!
Manufacturers always rate machine to their "maximum". With shredders if you want longevity and the fewest jams it would be recommended that you run the machine at about 50% capacity.
Its pretty simle really..start with 1 sheet then 2 sheets and keep going until you hear the motor starting to "labour"....you shouldn't run much more than that.
Think of it like your car...it will do 100 mph...you know what it sounds like at that speed..engine going flat-out etc, etc...how long would your car last if you always drove it "flat-out"??? How many repair bills would you have..."or" if you drove your car at 50 ~60 mph its a lot easier on the car, lasts longer and with routine maintenance will have fewer breakdowns and repairs.
Now...routine maintenance on your shredder.....the 150mx is a cross-cut shredder; ALL cross-cut shredders should be "oiled" regularly...has your's ever been oiled????. Its a simple process...you get a bottle of "shredder" oil and pour some across the cutting blades to provide librication and help clear away the tiny pices generated in the shredding process. How frequently??? How much do you shred?? The more you shred the more you will need to oil it. The Royal shredder is a consumer machine designed for the home or home office use; for occassional shredding.

I have a Royal CX 66 Crosscut shredder and attempted to shred 10 pages. The unit shredded 1/2 of the papers and the other 1/2 are stuck in the shredder; the reverse mode will not release the papers. Is...

The Royal cx-6 shredder is a small consumer shredder rated for "up to 6 sheets at a time" so yes it will jam with anything more that 6.
If running it in reverse won't work you will have to try to open it up and see if you can manually turn things to get the paper back out...there is no other way if it wont run in reverse...hopefully when you have the paper removed the machine will still function.

I have a Royal VF810 crosscut shredder and I have lost the operating manual. How could I get another one?

Doubt if you will get a new operators manual on a "consumer" model machine....remember this is a "light-use" shredder...only run the machine at 70% of its maximum rating...lubricate it occasionaly by putting shredder oil on a sheet of paper then shred the sheet of paper...only run it for a "max" of 5 mins then give it 10 mins to "cool down".....
