Depends on the manufacture they all have different user/password as default if someone has change it from the default then a hard reset will clear it and allow you to log with the default info.. remember this will clear all custom settings, but most likely for a common households using it for wifi it should not be an issue. Call your cable company if you think you need special settings from them. as resetting may stop your internet.
