Light will come on when plugged in but pedal will not work

Does the light still work on your machine? If so, it probably has something to do with the foot control or its connection to the machine.

The wiring for the older Kenmore is simple. The light switch completes the connection to the light. If the foot pedal has failed or connection loose where the wire attaches from the foot-pedal the motor will not run.

Also if the brushes in the motor are worn or failing to contact the motor internally the motor will not run.

With light on and pedal partially depressed attempt to activate motor to determine if brush connection are faulty. If the motor reacts at all the brushes will likely need to be replaced.

No success borrow a foot pedal from a friend or sewing center to determine if the pedal control is faulty.

It sounds like it's in the electrical system and I would worry that it might short out and cause a fire.Get another opinion.

there could be something wrong with the foot pedal, it may need to be serviced or replaced, or there could be something wrong with the plug where the foot pedal plugs into

check to make sure the foot pedal is securely plugged into the machine and there could be something wrong with the foot pedal

or the motor could have a problem,, the machine probably needs to be checked to see what's wrong with it..

The light will work even if the pedal isn't functioning. The foot pedal in your machine sounds like it needs to be repaired or replaced . To make sure that your machine isn't the problem you can plug a friends pedal in just for a trial run.

Is there power, does the sewing bed light come on? If so there is probably a fault with the pedal. If you are practical you can open the pedal and fit a volt meter across the terminals to see if the voltage increase when the pedal is pressed.

change the power chord of your pedal, if not, open the pedal and look for the connection if that is cut or loose try to tight or connect it.
