It could be defective but be careful as gas appliances are very dangerous and any work on gas appliances must, by law, only be carried out by a local competent gas service person with licence , preferably CORGI registered, and must comply with 'Gas Safety and home insurance policies regulations

My Whirlpool duet sport dryer got hot and shut off after running 20 minutes.

Sounds like you may have a bad heating element that has grounded. You should have this looked at to make sure if you aren ot handy to open the dryer up and inspect the heating element your self. make sure the element wire has not broken and fused itself to metal inside the dryer heater housing.

This happened to me. Turned out it was a gas valve fracture which had to be replaced by the gas company. That's if you have a gas dryer

Dryer drum rotates but does not dry. No heat.

The problem is your dryer coils are failing. They tend to fail as they heat up. The parts are inexpensive and easy to test and replace. There is a video at www.appliancehelponline.com/servicemanual.html this will walk you thru the troubleshooting of these components. It may be a different model but the troubleshooting will be the same. You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations. Not all models are available. If you need help disassembling your machine there are videos of this also for most styles.

My gas dryer won't heat but will run it's a duet and i changed the glow plug or igniter

Since you replaced the ignitor and if it is operating normally, it should glow visibly. If the ignitor is operating properly and the burner is not lighting, then I would look at faulty gas valve coils as being the problem. The coils are located right above the gas valves. These solenoids, when energized, open the gas valves. If they are faulty, the gas valves won't open and the burner won't light. Due to the difficulty in testing these coils, it is best when replacing them to replace both (all) of them at once. Hope this helped and best wishes.

My whirlpool gas dryer will not cycle through on Automatic Dry. When I start the dryer it will ignite and heat up, but then after it cools, it will not ignite again and therefore will not cycle. I have...

The burner valve coils (2 in a kit) need replaced . After electricity goes thru them , they will warm up , causing one of them to "open" (short internally). It will not work again till the coil cools back down . Only 2 screws hold the coil bracket on , so , they are not hard to change .Don't have to turn the gas off but do unplug dryer . The burner valve is located in the front of the dryer by removing the front panel .

Dryer heats slowly

When dryer heats too slow, that means that there is a problem either with the heating element, the thermostat, or the vent.

See the following suggeations from Repairclinic:

Drying is too slow It normally takes about 45 minutes for a dryer to dry a full load. If your dryer is taking more than an hour, check these.

Vent
Heating element
Internal ductwork
Cycling thermostat
Vent Frequently there's an obstruction in the vent duct from the dryer to the outside of the house. For the dryer to heat properly, the duct must be clean and clear of lint or any other substance.

Heating element Your dryer's heating element may be partially burned out. If it is, your dryer still heats, but at such a low temperature that it takes three or four times as long to dry the clothes. If the element is partially burned out, replace it.

Internal ductwork Your dryer has some internal ductwork. If it gets clogged, your dryer can't dry properly. In most dryers, to get to the internal ductwork to clear the clog, you have to substantially disassemble the dryer. A quick way to check for internal clogs is to remove the lint filter and use a flashlight to inspect the inside of the duct. If it looks clogged and you can't clear it using your vacuum, contact a qualified appliance repair technician.

Cycling thermostat Although this isn't a common problem, one of the thermostats that controls the temperature in your dryer may break and cause the dryer to heat poorly. If so, you need to replace it. The thermostat is usually a small, round, black device mounted to an oblong steel plate. The plate is mounted to the internal ductwork with two screws.

After a few heating cycles the burner does not ignite

The problem you are describing is usually associated with a bad gas valve coil. The dryer runs normally until it gets hot, then starts making a strange clicking noise. After it cools down, the dryer runs normally again. The gas valve coils (there are two of them) usually run about $20 a piece. I recommend replacing both of them at the same time just to be sure. I hope this helps.
