my printer makes a nasty sound and then a "Printer Error" message followed by "see your documentation and call service if necessary" appears

  • laketoe Apr 23, 2009

    No paper jam.

Makes the sound when I first turn it on.

    Tried to turn it luck.

Can't seem to find the spot where the noise is coming from.

1. Look inside, and see if a tan colored belt is secure and not loose. if you are able to move the belt and the printhead does not move, it means the clip on the printhead is damaged. Really not worth repairing.

2. since its giving you a printer error and not a scanner error, then most likely the printhead is in the cleaning assembly and the locking mechanism will not release. it could be a simple as manually lowering it. Look in the printer, just to the left of the printhead, there should be a lever in the up position, with a pencil or maybe a small screwdriver, see if you can move it backward (toward the front of the printer) and manually move the printhead left and back to right, turn the printer back on and see if it helps.

Thank you for the tip, I've just followed your instructions. The tan-coloured belt was fine, so I tried following tip number 2. Our printer had previously jammed and then made the same horrible grinding noise/showed a red error light when switching it on as the person above described. Being a complete novice, was not really sure what I was doing, but I moved the ink cartridges to the left; discovered the print head underneath; fiddled with a pencil as directed and the little lever suddenly dropped back down into place! Yippee! I think it must have got stuck and was grating against the cartridges. The cartridges moved back to the right and slotted in much further along. It all sounds normal now when I switch on and the nozzle check was fine. Thank you so much. Very inky, but very grateful!

Has anyone ever done fuel injectors on a 1993 chevy K3500 p/u w/a 6.5 liter turbo diesel? If so is it hard or something I can do myself?

not a diy project as the injectors have to be calibrated to crack at a specific pressure
Best take it to a professional diesel shop where new tips can be fitted and the calibration done correctly

The belt has snapped. Does anyone know how to

If there is no removeable rear panel then it can be done from the top, it is not easy, but I have done it in the past.
If you tilt the washer towards you, it gives more room to get your hands and arms in to fit the belt.
Otherwise it means removing the rear half of the cabinet.
Hope this helps.
