Question about Computers & Internet

Alright, what's happening is that when i hit the power, the LED lights up, the fan turns on...but the screen never shows anything. i've tried unplugging everything, removing the battery and holding the power in for 30 seconds, and no dice. after looking far and wide for answers regarding my problem and seeing that most solutions regarded getting the motherboard fixed, i got inside and checked it...no problems there. what's going on?

Heyyy.... i am sure its not just about motherboard... its about RAM only... you replace your RAM with another one and surely it will turn on... and also RAM is not so costly but Motherboard will cost you so much money !!!

Power Supply with a weak voltage power rail.

[There are 3 voltage power rails. 3.3 Volts, 5 Volts, and 12 Volts. All are DC Voltage ]

Enough power to light LED's, and spin fans, but not enough power to turn the Processor on.

1) If ALL of the LED lights were on at once they would use less than 1 Watt of power.

2) EACH fan uses 2 to 3 Watts of power.

3) A typical Processor can use 51 to 125 Watts of power.
Just depends on what Processor it is.

Suggest you check the three main voltages with a multimeter.
Since the Soft Power On circuit uses 5 Volts, I have a feeling the 5 Volt power rail may be the bad one.

An economical multimeter can be purchased for as little as $5 to $12.
Available in a multitude of stores. An auto parts store is but one example.
Need guidance in using it just post in a Comment.

Or you can borrow a KNOWN to be good, Compatible power supply, and use it for a test unit.

For additional questions please post in a Comment.

My toshiba satellite c655d-s5080 wont come on even though the power light comes on and the fan comes on after a while

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LEDflashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faultyinverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow myinstructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

So does it sound like your laptop is running and booted up all the way except the screen is blank? if so try the steps below:

Shine a flashlight on the dark screen to see if you barelysee the icons on the desktop. If so, then the LCD Inverter is bad.

Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can beany kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vgacable to connect to your computer's vga port. If so that proves yourvideo card is ok. The video will show on most systems when you rebootwithout you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN(Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correctkey for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key willnormally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

If you see no icons by shinning a flash light and the external monitor works, then your screen is bad. If you see no icons by shinning the flash lightand nothing shows on the external monitor, then most likely your video card isbad.

Hi,

The middle blue led is the charging indicator, sounds like you have (at least) a bad battery, remove it, plug in AC and try again, if no good, remove the HD and repeat, if no good, remove/replace the ram and repeat, if still no good, your mainboard is cooked.

Thanks,

Adam.

Power light is green but screen is black

Do you get anything at all on the screen--like white writing at startup?
Even if your video drivers have become corrupt, they are not used until Windows actually starts.
It very well could be the flourescent backlight has gone bad. Can you adjust the brightness/contrast at all to see anything?
If those controls do nothing for you, then you're looking to get a new monitor.
Your monitor does have a sort of power supply for the backlight and that could be bad, but if you're not into taking it apart, then you are far better off buying a new monitor.
