CD/DVD drive not working
Help please, anybody!
Should read>: Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)etc? well: Reasons for this error include a driver that is not present; a binary file that is corrupted; a file I/O problem, or a driver that references an entry point in another binary file that could not be loaded. Uninstall the driver, and then click, Scan for hardware changes to reinstall or upgrade the driver. this may help, or you may need to use the recovery console: this page should help you deal with that: support.microsoft.com/kb/307654 good luck

Hi,
I have the same problem. I tried uninstalling the driver and scanning for hardware changes but that did nothing, I tried restoring to an earlier date and the computer did not allow me to identify a former restore point.
One of the manuals I read said to remove the hard drive and any other drives and then see if the computer will recognize the CD drive. I have not tried this as of yet as I am not that confident in the hardware area.
My device manager reads the same error message. Also My computer does not even show the device. I wondered if the ribbon hooking it to the mother board went bad or if the socket the ribbon plugs into went bad. However, It did not just stop. First I lost my drag and drop feature. When I tried to drag to disc, the files just disappeared and then the dvd writer would no longer read that disc. Now it is as if it does not exist but shows on device manager. Tis a puzzlement.
