D400 is not booting up from usb

Is your system set up to boot from USB? What is attached? A flash drive or an external cd/dvd drive? If a flash drive, was the software on it created to be bootable? Is this the first time you are trying to boot from USB? Please provide more details.

Ze5170 not showing usb flash as boot option

1. The PC has to support booting from a USB flash/pen/key drive. There may be anywhere from 0-3 items to change in the BIOS to make this possible assuming your BIOS supports it. Some older bios's may refer to your flash drive as a USB floppy or USB zip.
2. The USB flash drive must support booting from it in general.
3. The flash drive must contain the boot/system files.
4. The flash drive must have bootsector area. This is done with special utilities.
5. References to "A:" drive lines in the autoexec.bat and/or config.sys files you copy to the drive after you make it bootable may result in errors.
6. There are several programs available if you do a Google search that will help you make your USB Flash Drive bootable as well.

Go into BIOS by pressing correct F key that is noted during boot. Make USB drive 1rst boot, save and exit.

The USB installation also needs to be bootable and made so with software like Novicorp

Installed win 7 but want restore to xp

To reinstall win XP from usb flash drive you need WIndows XP cd, 1 gb flash drive and Novicorp WinToFlash. Download WinToFlash to your computer and follow instructions to transfer Windows XP from cd to flash drive, After that boot your notebook from usb device and select "TXT Mode Setup Windows XP, Never unplug USB-Drive Until After Logon" then install win xp normally, but format C partition. After first start of your notebook boot again from flash drive in "TXT Mode Setup Windows XP, Never unplug USB-Drive Until After Logon". Now windows is starting, go to start/my computer right click on it and go to properties in this windows go to advanced tab and there go to startup and recovery, click on settings, in new window go to edit tab and in new window change the line "multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect" after windows XP write the type of your XP Professional, Home Edition, or Media Center. Now you can remove usb flash drive and boot normally from hdd.

Boot manager is compressed

There are some security programs that do this. When you press Ctrl-Alt-Del, you get a password dialog. Certain viruses also have this effect, either by imitating the security startup or sabotaging the boot sector.
Can you boot the computer with an optical disk or USB boot system? (Some Linux distributions can be installed on a USB flash drive. If your notebook BIOS lets you enable USB boot, you can start and run the computer using the the flash drive.)
If you can get a Windows install disk for your version, you can try a repair install to see if it will patch a corrupted boot sector. Otherwise, you may need to use an antivirus scan run from a system on an external drive.

Go to your BIOS by pressing the delete key as your computer boots up.
Find boot disk priority and set first boot device to your hard drive.
I suggest you unplug any flash drives as you boot the laptop.

My son has forgotten his password on his Acer aspire one notebook, it has the windows 7 starter edition. it does not have a disk drive. how do i restore this computer?

Go to this site: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/tp/passrecovery.htm. Pick one of the recovery tools and download. One of the first two would be preferable to the following method. You will need to burn this to a cd, then copy the contents of the cd to a bootable usb flash drive. The notebook should have the ability to boot from one of these. You will need to change the start up settings in the bios to boot to the flash drive first. Run the utility that boots up from the flash drive. (This is your cheapest option). Your other option is go pick up a cheap external optical drive and run the recovery tool above from it. Again you will have to change the boot settings.

Acer Aspire 5507Z Notebook *ACTUAL NOTEBOOK

Sounds like the hard drive could be bad, or maybe it is trying to boot from the cd drive. The "Check media cable" is the error that bugs me. In your bios, you can usually have the computer boot from a CD Rom drive, or a usb flash drive, etc.. instead of the hard drive where the operating system is. Make that :

1. there is no cd in the cd drive.
2. When the laptop boots, don't touch the keyboard while booting.
Try that and lets see if it will boot into the cd drive.
