Question about Panasonic TH-46PZ800U Plasma TV

Random black bar

OK so our panasonic TV randomly bugged out today and we lost the image but kept the sound
so i unplugged the TV to reset it and i got the image and sound back but i got this random black bar right in the center of the TV
Help!
dont know what i did:P
Exact same problem. A black bar, or ribbon, in the middle third of the screen on the right hand side.
And this is the SECOND tv we've gone through. We were able to successfully return the first TV back to Sears but then purchased the exact same tv/model through Cirucuit City, right before they closed because Sears Customer Service proved to be unsatisfactory (not that Panasonic Customer Service is any better). I suppose it will get fixed, for a bit, but fully expect the same problem to occur once the second tv is fixed yet again. And hopefully, after we've returned the same TV for the same problem time and again, Panasonic will get the hint that they sell a defective product and do the right thing. I don't want to have to travel a long distance to Panasonic headquarters with a busted, worthless TV in tow to tell them what I really think of their product!

That bar is a menace to clear. somtimes manufactures put problems in so when you tell them the problem they know what to do this is how they make money

You either have a bad Main board or simply a bad touch control button in other word one of your side buttons is defective and it is blocking any other signal to the main board, but usually its a bad main board. In some cases ther is a FIRMWARE update from Panasonic, you may want to call Panasonic or check there website for any type of FIRMWArE UPDATE.

We have a Samsung PS50Q91HDX Plasma Tv which is not quite 3yrs old. Ever since we have had it, it turns itself on & off at random but this is not the main problem. Last night we were watching a show...

This is weird. I also have a plasma 50" model PS5Q91HDX and on the 5/02/11 the screen went blank when my friends daughter was watching a Wiggles DVD. The image kept coming back, flashing a scene or two before going black again. But the sound is perfect.

I wonder what is going on? Is anyone else having trouble with their 3-4 year old Samsung 50" TVs???

My tv image shrinks and expands horzontally at random as the picture and sound changes. Colour also incosistent

Hello
Your Tv has some loose contacts, or loose soldering inside it. Just open your TV, and unplug and replug all the pluged in connections for one time and see whether it helps you. Keep special attention to the horizontal deflection yoke plug in connection. There is some loose soldering or loose contacted connection in the horizontal output section inside your Tv. There is no doubt about it. Keep close look and track. OK.

Resetting the TV
NOTE:
Some TVs have a reset button. If available and accessible, try using the reset buttons before using the steps below. Using the reset buttons can save time.
1. Unplug the TV power cord from the power outlet.
2. Unplug any connected devices (DVD, Set-top boxes, etc...)
3. Press and hold the TV power button for five seconds.
4. Plug the TV power cord back into the power outlet and turn on the TV.
5. Open the on-screen menu to confirm that the TV is responding again.
6. Turn off the TV and reconnect the devices.
7. Turn on the TV.

Hope it may help you;

Regards,

Won't respond to volume or channel changes red light blinks 20x's when turned off.

It's definitely a firmware problem. I called Panasonic and they were very polite about the entire situation and sent me a SD card with the firmware update. If you don't have time and you're tired of listening to tv at the same volume there is a way to do a hard reset.

I figured that unplugging the unit would do this, but there is one other step that you have to do to ensure that this works.

Generally the power button on the tv is always in the "on" position, this is what allows the remote to work. In order to do a hard reset the on/off button must be in the off position. Make sure that is off, then unplug the unit, let it sit there for a minute or two and plug it back in. If the tv comes back on as soon as you plug it back into the wall/powerstrip then the button was not in the off position.

This isn't the best fix, you'll still need to get the firmware update but it will at least give you the ability to use your tv normally....well until it decides to randomly lock up on you again and you have to do this all over.

i hate to say it, but that sounds like the card is bad.. your best bet is to go to their support website and find out about a manufacturers warranty and send it in.. not much you can do.
