Thread jams in the hook

I have a Singer 3116 and I've never been able to get anything done on this machine. I get maybe 2 or 3 stitchs out and the top thread just jams and piles up in the hook. I've oiled it, I've threaded it properly and I've made sure the tension is corrected. There is absolutely nothing else I can thiknk of that I can do to this machine to make it work properly.

The problem was I was using thread that was too thick. Which kinda sucks, because I wanted to use the stronger thread.

Rethread and when you do, be sure presser foot raised so thread can locate the open tension disks. If you threaded machine with presser foot down and flat against needle plate where feed dogs are, no amount of turning dials and de-linting/cleaning will allow those tension disks to draw in thread so you can correct tension. Take heart, a deep, cleansing breadth, and give another try.
IMPORTANT! ALWAYS TURN POWER SWITCH TO OFF POSITION WHEN CHANGING NEEDLES! Hold needle when removing so it doesn't fall into machine.

You most likely have a top tension problem. make sure your top tension unit is clean of any dirt between your tension plates

My singer sewing machine is jammed. it sewed awhile, the bottom tension too loose, I adjusted it a tad, now its jammed again

try changing the needle
adjust the top tension one number or letter higher till the stitch looks
normal
clean under the needle plate & in the bobbin area for lint
make sure the bobbin is not warped
make sure the bobbin is inserted correctly into the bobbin case
try rethreading the machine top & bobbin
it's also possible that the machine could be out of time & needs
to be checked at a repair shop

I have a singer simple 3116 sewing machine and it stitches loose upper threads. I?ve tried adjusting the tension, re threading, flipping the bobbin around, and even different fabric. But nothing seems to...

Insert a new needle, (flat side facing rear of machine), now totally rethread. Try this, with presser foot up, pull top thread, it should pull smoothly, now lower presser foot, the thread should barely move. This should seat the thread in the tension discs. If that doesn't work, call Singer at 1-800-4singer.

Hi! I have a singer simple 3116 sewing machine

It is the top threading that is giving you the problem not the bobbin thread. Try this, totally rethread, the machine. A new needle will not hurt either. Now with the presser foot up, pull on the top thread, it should feed smoothly, now lower the presser foot, pull the thread again, it should barely move. This usually will seat the thread in the tension discs.
Good luck and Merry Christmas

My machine is jammed. it will go backwards but

It usually is stuck thread and it might only be the smallest piece, run a pin around the inside of the raceway and see if anything comes out.

Bottom of stitch is bunched with alot of thread and machine jams

Try these time savers:
Test your thread quality to start, thread your machine and LIFT the presser foot (this opens the tension disks). Pull your top thread straight back. If you feel no tension no mater how much thread you pull, your thread is good. If that your machine passes that test, then let me know, we can go to step 2. If not, try different spool of thread, same test until you get a smooth pull (tip: always check your thread this way when you thread your machine)
Step 2:
Pull on your threaded bobbin thread while it’s in the machine. Does it pull smooth and even? If so, go to step 3. If not, try a new bobbin (bobbins get bent or distorted if wound too tight).
Clean thoroughly in the hook and bobbin case area and oil 1-2 drop is all.

I just got a singer simple 3116 and i can't get the stitches to look right. it looks like the top thread is too loose, but changing the tension doesn't change anything.

more than likely the thread is not firmly between the tension discs.  with the pressure foot up and the needle in highest position you should be able to pull thread with resistance.  If there is no resistance, most likely the thread tension is not being controlled.

Stitch is uneven, not straight, and tension off on top and bottom

on my industrial machine this was caused by the wrong size needle. the length was off just a fraction. just an idea, in case you bought generic needles or something.

Needle jams and breaks off

Needle jams....Thread is caught in the hook...solution...Remove the upper thread and bobbin case, turn the handwheel backwards and forwards by hand and remove the thread remands.

Needles breaks
1. Needles is damaged..Insert new needle
2. The needle is not correctly inserted....insert flat side towards the back
3. Wrong needle size for the fabric...Choose a needle to suit the thread and fabric.
