    What is your operating system?

  • ultimitloozr May 11, 2010

What exactly is it attempting to access and why? Are you trying to install software without being logged in as an administrator? Are you trying to write data to locations under C:\Program Files?

    when you get the error.

Is it in XP or in Vista. And also check the user with which you had logged in.

Windows cannot access specified device path or file you may not have the appropriate permissions

Is your account an "administrator" account? This is important in 7 as well as Vista.

Also, did you install whatever it was to an external drive? If so, Windows 7 is bad about changing drive letters of external hard disks every time you restart. If this is the case, click your start orb and right click on "Computer" then left click on "Manage."

In the left pane, there will be "Disk Management." Click on it and give it a second for everything to populate. There are a list of all your drives in the middle towards the bottom. You can right click in their partitions and left click "change drive letter." From there you can change them back to what they where before and things will start working again.

As far as permissions go, they're a pain if you change stuff over manually. But, there is an easy way if you know specifically what folder or file you need permissions to use:
Add Take Ownership to Explorer Right Click Menu in Win 7 8 or Vista
This will add a right click context item where you can seize permissions quick like. It's SUPER handy.

Windows "remembers" the drive-letter and "path" that was used the last time that you saved something. So, just choose a VALID drive-letter and a VALID path, and the download will progress.

Most often permission problems are the result of a virus.I recommend down loading the free version of avira anti virus then run a scan in safe mode and see whats on your system.
