15w-30 engine oil and ATF transmission oil probably an atf -4 oil ring any automatic transmission shop for the oil specs make sure that it is a genuine automatic transmission and not a cv transmission ( constant velocity )transmission as using ATF oil will destroy the belt and the transmission
there is really only one way to "check" your trans fluid. it involves getting under the car, loosening a bolt on the trans and adding fluid until it starts to pour out. gm attempted, poorly in my opinion, to use the closed fluid system therefore there is no dipstick. the teansmission fill is located on the drivers side under the throttle body. it is a red screw in cap. you will have to remove the breather box to access it easily
change your fluid and filter in teansmission WARNING :start car and shut it off just before you do because if you dont you will burn the bands up.I recommend Lucas transmittion conditioner as well.My grand prix calls for sythetic 2003 7 quarts so check with salesman and see what kind it calls for and also count the bolts and pattern before you buy so you make sure you have the right one before you start your project.
od stands for over drive. a stander finel drive with out od . is one to one that means for every turn of the engine or input shaft of the teansmission .the output shaft turns at the same rate its called 1 to 1. on a over drive the out put shaft turns faster than the input shaft. you may see a turn rate like .75 to 1. that means the engine has turned 3/4 of the full turn .but the transmission output shaft has made a full turn.
your teansmission is going to be overhauled. it sounds like the synchros are going bad. the shifter has forks that move the gears. sometimes the forks wear out and it can cause the gears to wear out because the gears are not going into like they are suppose to. leave comment..
Do NOT purchase this vehicle. Do a search and you will find the teansmissions are BAD! Mine just went and I see it's commen problem and Ford is of no help if your warranty has expired, as it would have by now.
There are no guarantees when it comes to a rebuilt transmission or anything. They usually have a warranty for the work all depending on the mileage afterwards. Is it over it? Most likely the gaskets need replacing and the bolts tightened again.
