Fridge fan not blowing

Is there a fan in the refrigerator compartment on my Kenmoore, or most fridges? The fan in the freezer is working, but there is no air blowing in the fridge section. Is this normal?

It's a Kenmoore side by side, model # 596.57582790. It's not cooling. We cleaned the coil out today, and no luck. After an hour, it's only 57degrees in the fridge part, and the freezer is blowing lukewarm air. Maybe thermostat? How can I check that? Thx, Bradley

Ok, troubleshooting the problem a little further. I removed the back cover on the freezer side to get access to the evap coil. When the compressor kicks on, only the very top coil gets cold and frosts (high humidity here today). The rest of the coil is not too cold at all. Shouldn't all the coils get cold immediately when the compressor starts pumping? Does this sound like low freon? The fans kicks on normally, and I can hear the compressor start when we plugged the unit in. Thx, Bradley

Actually, the fans are working. Both condensor and evap internal fan. It's just weird that only the very first, top evap coil has frost on it,and the others are not really very cold at all. It's cool, but only something like 50 degrees in the freezer, and 60 in the fridge.

No, no, thanks for the help. We're trying to decide on wether or not to just buy a new fridge. This one is 10 years old, and it's upsetting to that it didn't last longer. I'm hoping it's a simple, inexpensive parts replacement. But if the freon is gone, it's probably not worth it.

This really started last fall, when the popsicles were soft. it's been a slow death. Thanks.

Yes, this is an indication of freon loss. It is possible that ice formed and you said freezer fan not working. The fan must work, but even if the Fan did not work with the freezer cover off you should see the evaporator coil freeze or become ice cold immediately. Did you see fan working? With a freon loss the best route is replacing your refrigerator. But if you know someone that will look it over and give a free estimate of the repair I would try that first. Most leaks on refrigerators ar hard to find and fix. We know the thermistat is working because the cold top of evaporator show its working. If I was there to give you an estimate for free I would do that for you. But knowing refrigerators as I do, you could replace it with a good used refrigerator for 10 percent of the total cost of a new one. If I have been helpful please rate me, wish you the best and feel free to contact me anytime, Thanks Sea Breeze seabreezehvac@yahoo.com

Did this happen suddenly or over a long period of time? If you feel I missed something you are welcome to re-post your question to another technician. I would not want to mislead you or give the incorrect answer. If it was a leak, and you have someone help you find it, repair and you should be fine.

Emerson compact fridge with freezer compartment freezer is very cold fridge nothing just warm is there any fan to blow air>> thanks

Your freezer fan unit may be frozen behind the inside wall and therefore not circulating the cold air down.
Se if you can remove the screws and back wall to check the fan unit.
Not all modeles can be repaired this way

Bosch kann58a50gb/o8 fridge not cooling freezer seems ok

See or hear if the fan inside is working. Im not conversant with your model. Some units have 2 fans , 1 in the freezer and 1 in the fridge. Some only have1 , which will be in the freezer only. If the fan fails, the fridge cannot blow cold air into the food compartment. Generally, when an evaporator fan fails, the fridge doesn't get cold and the freezer overfreezes causing an excess ice buildup in the freezer.

Hi there.I have an Amana Side by Side Refridgerator. We are having a problem with the fridge side not cooling enough. The Freezer side is working well.Have you any tips on how to fix it myself ?Cheers.

Check fan which blows cool to fridge compartment is working. Check fridge is defrosted automatically. If not do it manually and check, there will be cooling in fridge compartment. Over frosting will cover up the fan throw behind the freezer. If not auto defrost works, switch off and restart after 5 minutes. Still auto defrost problem, do it manually or replace board.

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

Warm refrigerator compartment

There is a fan that blows the cold air down from the freezer to the fridge compartment. It is usually called a freezer fan. Most of them are behind the plastic lining in the freezer. I just noticed that your fridge is a side by side. I have never wored on a side by side but I imagine there is fan in them as well.

Westinghouse fridge: no cool air circulating inside

Art, I need to get a little more information from you. Does the condenser fan under the refrigerator seem to work and blowing warm air from below and or behind the refrigerator? The motor feeling warm is OK. Only when too hot to touch on top. Needs to cycle also. When you opened the freezer did you hear the fan blowing? Thanks, JT

Refrigerator compartment cools correctly for a few days then no longer receives cold air from freezer. The freezer continues to operate and gets much colder than it should.

does your fan blow? freezers have a fan that pushes cold air to the fridge side if fan is bad freezer will run extremely cold and fridge won't cool down and since frige won't cool down thermostat in fridge doesn't tell compressor to stop

REFRIG E402BRE

My fridge (E440T but I believe the E522 is similar) has EXACTLY the same symptoms and the reason was a broken fan wire in the freezer compartment (behind the rear panel). The fridge compartment works by drawing air from the freezer and blowing it into the fridge compartment. If the fan in the freezer doesn't work, then your fridge won't get cold (there is another fan in the fridge compartment so it will stay a little cold but not enough).
