Heating and performance problems on my Aspire 5520

Hello,

I got my laptop about 6 months ago, and problems seem to become bigger and bigger. The CPU almost never stops making noise and the temperature is constantly at around 70, sometimes even at 95 degrees. Next to this, there's the problem that it runs very slow at times. Thinking that there might be a connection, I tried to lift it a little, so the fan has some more space, but it just doesn't work. I removed all spyware, malware, wiped the whole thing clean and reset it to default, nothing works.

Has anyone got any idea on what's wrong here and how I can solve it?

Thanks in advance,

Thanks guys. Is the heating problem also a solution for my low performances? I guess so, because when I run PC Wizard it tells me that the performances aren't as bad as they seem to be..

We had the same problem with the same model. The problem is that the side openings in the fan assembly tend to get plugged with dust. Take the back cover off, and then take the few screws off the covering for the fan assembly. It'll likely be plugged with dust. Get a small brush (like for an electric razor), and just brush the dust off. That will solve the problem. or redo the paste on the cpu with some arctic silver

check the fan and h/sink are clear of dust
see if they have a full manual you can download on the acer site giving an exploded view of the laptop

Well you can clean it out using compressed air to free it from dust, also you can buy a cooler to go underneathe it for under $20.00 it has two fans and this will help keep it cool.

You should take out the cover in the back, it has 5-6 screws i dont remember exactly. Then, you will see the cooler fan and most probably you will see it is full of dust. The cooler is also fixed with 2 more screws, so take them of and clean all the dust. dont use water...etc It should solve the problem, i had the same.

My 4 year old Acer Aspire 5520 notebook shuts off on me at random time periods. I try keeping it proped up and keeping it cool but that doesnt even seen to help. It doesnt over heat but just decides to...

Have you cleaned the cpu fan? The computer has a cpu fan that can get dirty over time. It's job is to keep the cpu cool. When the cpu overheats, the computer senses it and shuts it down immediately, to prevent permanent damage to the cpu. You can clean it by blowing compressed air into it, and should do that every few months, as routine maintenance. This is the most common thing that shuts a laptop down, other problems involve repair, so try this first. I bough a $7 three inch fan at Walmart to help cool the laptop, and when I run it, I never have it shut down on me, but once in awhile it will without the fan, especially when I play dvds or videos, which really work th' heck out of the cpu. There are also commercial laptop cooling devices, but my little fan works just fine. The other thing that could be happening is some problem with windows, which is something I couldn't begin to guess. Hope it's just a bit too much heat.

I turn the laptop on after about 30 secs it turns itself off. Acer Aspire AS5520. Some vendors are saying it is motherboard problem and some are saying it is CPU problem. and you have to replace it.

its probly 1 of 2 things the battery or its over heating see if you can feel any air flow from the fan vent it may need to be blown out with some compressed air or vacume

Over heating

I would suggest you to check the heatsink and cpu fan,
it could be dirty, if it is dirty, clean it and it should work fine.

To see heatsink and cpu fan, open 4 screw on the back of your laptop.
remove the cover, remove the fan screw (3), remove fan,
remove 4 screw on the cpu heatsink, remove the heatsink.

if your heatsink and fan are clean, it could be something else cause the shut down.
in this case you should send it for repair.
