Question about Kenmore 73262 / 73264 / 73269 Top Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

Whirlpool top freezer leaking into refridgerator.

The freezer leaks water onto the top shelves of the freezer. Have already removed bottom shelf and back panel to clear out drain successfully. It's about three weeks now and the same thing is happening. Could it be the defrost heater? Timer? help!

Water leak on floor

Typically on this model the drain hole Under the evaporator cover gets clogged. Remove the cover off the rear of the refrigerator and pour hot water into the drain until it goes down quickly. To remove the cover u will have to remove all the freezer shelves and the icemaker. Remove the covers screw and u should see that at the bottom u will have a block of ice down below. The refer goes onto defrost every couple days and will leak the melted ice onto the floor

Water is leaking onto top shelves of unit

Hello, Thank You for using FixYa. I will be helping you today. Your drain line is most likley frozen. You need to remove the shelfs from the freezer and the bottom slide out panel. Remove the screws holding down the plastic bottom piece in the freezer then remove the back panel in the freezer. Remove any ice buildup you can. The drain is in the middle under the evaporator. DONT TOUCH the evaporator. Use boiling water and pour it in the back untill the drain runs free.
Thank You and please rate my answer if it was helpful..

Water leaks from freezer onto top shelves on my kenmore coldspot model 106.78202890. where can i find a manual to unclog the drain?

Remove the food and the ice maker from the freezer ( if equiped ) . Remove the rear freezer panel . Using a hair dryer , start in the middle , below the coils , defrosting , until you see the drain hole . Use hot water to help defrost the hole . Once water starts going thru the hole , use a small hose inserted into the hole , and blow thru , to remove any unseen debris in the drain line . Use an ALUMINUM or Copper solid wire , ( a ground wire or fence post tie ) 14-16 guage , with the insulation completely off , and insert one end into the drain hole as far as possible without any force . Wrap the other end about 1 1/2 to 2 turns , around the black rod (defrost heater) , above the hole . When refrig goes into defrost , the heat will transfer from the heater , to the wire , keeping the hole from freezing up again .

Water is leaking onto top shelf of fridge. It is a top freezer.

Sounds like you have a frozen drain in the freezer. You can remove the back panel of the freezer and take a turkey baster and run hot water down the drain line to clear it. Once its cleared you will want to dump an additional cup of water down to make sure that its clear. This will stop the defrost tray from overflowing when the unit goes into defrost. This is where the water is coming from.
Hope this helps _MJ_

Fridge is dripping directly onto top shelf. It is

Hello, this sounds like you have a blockage in the drain tube, remove panel back/bottom of freezer..you may see ice build up...melt ice with hair dryer/heat gun...you will see a pan below evaporator...melt ice in pan...dry water up in pan with paper towel...now you should see a hole in pan that leads to drain tube...pour some hot water in pan..wait a couple minutes..mop up water and repeat this step 2-3 times....once you have done this find some flexible curtain wire or electrical wire..poke down the hole until you see the water drain..now it is clear..put back panel back and you are good to go. The reason you see water in the fridge is because the water has been leaking into the freezer and down the vent into the fridge instead of running into the drain hole...Please feel free to comment again if you have any other question. There is water leaking out of my bottom freezer

Hi,
The reason for your fridge to leak water on floor sounds like your defrost drain is frozen over. When the refrigerator is going into defrost it's draining through the front instead of the drain pan. You can remove the shelves and peel off the back cover and clear the drain by pouring hot water on the frozen drain hole. If you have a boaster of some sort you could try to squirt the hot water through the venting on the bottom of the panel. Another way to point a hair dryer on the drain hole. The best method is to remove the shelves and panel and make sure the drain is clear.
Thank you for contacting Fixya.com

Water dripping from freezer onto top shelf of fridge with ice buildup back of freezer

the defroster isn't close enough to the drain to be effective. remove the back wall of the inside of the freezer, remove the excess ice. clear out the ice from the drain using hot water and a turkey baster. there is a kit from whirlpool that uses a piece of metal and a screw around the defrost rod, but I found out that a piece of 14 gauge solid core wire with the insulation stripped off works great too. stick the stripped wire into the drain, 2 to 3 inches, and wrap the rest around the defrost rod.

Water leaking in refrigerator on shelves, drawers, and under draw

common issue.....sounds like a drain clog in the freezer compartment above. remove the freezer rear panel and totally defrost the evaporator area, directly under the evap you see( under all taht ice) a small drain hole that has become frozen over, try defrosting with either a hair dryer( not a heat gun too much heat youl melt everything) or by pouring hot water donw the drain until you get a free flow of water down the tube. after its clear reassemble and you should be fine

Water leaking inside of refrigerator from freezer

IT SEEMS LIKE YOU HAVE A CLOGGED DRAIN . CHECK YOUR CONDECER COILS BEHIND KICK PLATE .. AFTER THAT YOU CAN UNPLUG FRIDGE FOR 24 HRS WITH DOORS OPEN AND SOULD DEFROST ENOUGH TO CLEAR DRAIN . IF NOT . DEPENDING ON MODEL YOU SOULD BE ABLE TO GET THROUGH DRAIN THROUGH MOST FREEZERS .
