Hi Beverley

There is some confusion here. You say "ink sponge needs replacing" in an Epson C86 (although you have your query posted under HP Officejet 5610!) - I presume you mean the waste ink pads. If so, you need to dismantle the printer - the pads are not under the print head but deep inside the case. I can provide all the information you need to complete this task if you really want to do it yourself. Please post a new comment requesting this assistance if you do.

Printer error

Hi,

Here a few common problems that your Epson printer and ink cartridge can suffer from.

Improper Installation of Cartridges

A common Epson printer and ink cartridge problem! If you have changed the ink cartridges then you might just receive this error message. The message might state that the cartridge is not installed correctly in the printers. In such cases, re-install the cartridge in the correct manner. If the problem persists then it is advisable that you replace the cartridge as it might be defective. If you still get the same error message on installation of the replacement cartridge then its time that you clean the print head. You could do this yourself or could take it to a repair facility.

Printing Failure

Failure to print documents is yet another common problem with respect to Epson printers. The print heads of Epson printers are sensitive and this sensitiveness is the culprit behind such problems. If the print head is clogged or blocked you will have to unclog or unblock them. This can be done by using a special fluid that is available for just this purpose only. This fluid flushes the print head, and your printer is once again ready to print.

Communication Error

'Communication Problems' are yet another one of the common problems surrounding Epson printers. Once you give the print command you might be shown the message that there is a communication error between the printer and the computer. This means that there is the occurrence of a minor problem. One of the reasons for this problem could be the inappropriate selection of printers from the print options menu. Cable connections should also be checked. Another solution could be the re-installation of the driver of the printer.

Print Jobs that are Slow or Incomplete

These are problems that occur during an ongoing process. The printing might stop midway and then start again after some time. At times, the printing process will repeat itself several times and then finish printing the page. There are times when the page will finish printing, but you will find that it is an incomplete print. More often than not, this is not a printer related problem.

What might have happened is that the driver might have corrupted or a virus might have infected the computer; or a spyware might be affecting the working of the printing process. If such a problem occurs, the best solution would be to scan the computer for viruses and spyware. As can be seen these common Epson printers and Epson ink cartridge problems can be sorted out quite easily.

hope it helps..

Thanks for using fixya...

Epson printing not printing

If you have already tried 3 consecutive head cleanings and nozzle check from the computer, tried reseating the inks and tried replacing the ink and it still acts like its printing but just provides a blank page chance are your printer already has hardware issue. The ink delivery system is already clogged. If your printer is still within the 1-year warranty period I suggest that you call Epson Tech support for more options otherwise, you would need to get the product repaired by an Epson certified service center. Printing

Sometimes, when you replace the cartridge of Epson printers, some bubles of air get inside the print head. In this case you have to do the procedure of head cleaning several times (sometimes 10 repetitions of the procedure are needed). You can clean the printer heads and make a test after each cleaning, to see if it was enough.

C86 Epson Stylus

hmmm...well..there's nothing in the service bulletins that suggest that. There IS a note related to replacing those sponges, since they do wear and dry out, even when worked properly. I usually decline to do a sponge bath(he..he) even if it sounds like a good idea. That ink gets into everything, and is tough to remove.

Not printing

The printer determines the amount of ink left in the cartridge by counting the number of ink "shots" when printing, head cleaning etc. This information is stored in the "chip" on the cartridge. Thus, it is not an actual measurement of the ink left, but an estimate calculated by subtracting the total shots from the original full ink quantity. This estimate can sometimes be grossly in error, usually due to a cartridge replacement not being carried out correctly. However, for all four cartridges to be suddenly out of ink is odd. The cheapest way to check this out is to buy a chip resetter on e-bay (currently one for sale at £3.25). Reset all your cartridges to "full", and see if the printer will now recognise them as full. If so, you can buy a new set OK. If the printer still says the cartridges are empty, post a new comment to this effect and we can provide further help.

Jeanne: I have the same problem. Seems to have begun after I tried putting the printer on a wireless network. That didn't work, and now, neither does the printer.
