Question about Kenwood KDC-716S CD Player

Will power up,will hide, will open on igntion start

This happened some time ago, so I don't know if this is a fixable problem. One hot day the radio just died the screen went crazy then turned off. But it still goes thru the motions; when I start the car the face plate pops open like it is going to play, it gets into the correct position and then faceplates lights do a very pretty light show and thats it. The backlight is on but nothing works. I've disconnected the speakers thinking there might be a short but that hasn't helped. Oh when I turnoff the car it goes thru its shut down procedure faceplate flips halfway down 5 second delay then closes completely. is there any type of hope for this unit?

Some Panasonic stereo's don't like non shop bought, home burnt discs (they are recorded at a different level) so try new discs plus run a CD laser cleaner through your system.

I install a radio it dont keep a memory

Pull the radio back out. I bet you hooked up both power wires (red and orange or yellow) to the ignition on hot wire. Orange or yellow depending on the radio usualy goes to the ignition on hot wire and red to a constant hot wire. Check the radio wiring diagram or list. One of the power wires has to go to a full time power source. check the wires with a circuit tester with the key off till you find the constant hot wire (battery power)

Clarion radio sound flickers

make sure your wirings are rated to handle the current needed by your radio. You might have a large voltage drop when it is at high volume level because it will draw lots of current. You might need to change the size of your wires to your Clarion. Check the voltage near the radio when it starts to flicker if it goes below the source voltage of 12V. hope this helps

"DCER" flashing....

That is a DC error.

What happened and why?
amp IC is fried, probably from overheating playing at very loud level. Maybe from a speaker going bad, maybe just random part failure

Is this fixable?

How do i fix it?
You must get the replacement part, take the radio apart, remove the solder from the amp ic, put new IC in and resolder connections. Put radio back together without forgetting anything you took apart. Also need to make sure the soldering is good, no solder bridges or anything like that (you wouldn't want to blow it up again right after replacing it)

How do i prevent this from happening again?
If it was caused by playing too loud for too long, don't turn volume up to point of hearning any distortion, that is clipping in the amp you hear and is very ******* amplifier ic.
If it happened from a speaker going bad you must replace the bad speaker.
If it was a random part failure there is not much you can do, you had some bad luck, thats all.

If you do not know how to remove solder and to solder very good, it is reccomended that you take it in for service, but it may not be worth it since this unit is not very exspensive. A shop may charge as much as $100 for this repair. part alone is about $30 or $40.

If you want to know the part number please reply and I will look it up for you, or you can get the generic number off the ic itself.
