Question about Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition for PC

2 Answers

I am using vista home premium with sp2 beta. I was having no problems until I recently decided to change the desktop backgroud. When I go to the Control Panel to change the image I get "Page failed to load" message on a blank screen. I would be very grateful for any help with this very annoying problem. I have spent a lot of time scouring the internet ( including Microsoft) to solve this problem.

I downloaded the files off the internet. I had previously swapped the current image with others from the download, with no problems.

I've had this image on the desktop for about 2-3 weeks. Yes, it's only happened after I used this image but only because I wanted to change it.

I've just run the scan and it reported that some files could not be repaired and has generated an log file.

I have tried runnung under safe mode, but no joy. I have also run scannow again, but same result. For some reason I can't locate the image that I am currently using - I'm still going to try and locate it - all the other images (jpegs) are there. By the way I am runnung AVG internet Security Ver 8.5. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you - I'm trying to cook a curry!

Problem solved (I hope). I have just remembered that I tried to install a patch to try and run Dreamscene on my computer a few weeks ago, and after trawling the net I have managed to replace the themecpl.dll & themecpl.dll.mui files in the system32 directory. This seems to have solved the problem. One thing I did consider doing was deleting all the registry entries listed in the dreamscene.reg file. Can I go ahead and do this, or is it better leaving the registry alone while my system appears to be running OK now?

Simple way to change the desktop background is to right click on the desktop (not on any icon but the free area) and click on properties (Vista Users click personalise), select for the default background image from there.
In case you have a saved photograph on the hard disk that you want to place as a desktop background then simply open the picture and right click on that to select "set as desktop background". issue resolved.

2wire homeportal 1000hw cannot find wireless address

Windows 7 (Beta) and Windows Vista 64 Bit. Step 1. Do not allow the autostartup to run the installation application. You must right click on the CD ROM and select the "OPEN" option. Locate the driver on the install CD. Since my DVD ROM drive is my "D:" drive I located the driver at D:\USB_VISTA32364\BACKUP_2WIRE_VISTA_USB_Installer.exe . Before you click on this you want to right click on this and select Properties. In the properties tab click on the middle tab marked "Compatibility". Make sure you select the checkmark box to: Run this program in compatibility mode for: and use the pull down menu to select Windows XP SP2. This is how I was able to get my 2wire utility to work on Windows 7 (beta) 64 Bit.

MY USB HSDPA MODEM WILL NOT WORK WITH VISTA HOME PREMIUM SP1

Be sure your system meets the minimum System Requirements.
• Standard USB interface
• Microsoft Windows® 2000, Windows® XP or Windows® Vista
• Mac OSX 10.3.7 up to Mac OSX 10.5 32 bit version
• Minimum 50MB of free hard disk space
• Minimum 128MB RAM

• Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher

Uninstall or reinstall SP1. Like Windows XP, Vista will not be reliable until SP2.

If you are using the USB modem via a PCMCIA USB 2.0 adaptor, then you will have a power issue. The PCMCIA cannot supply enough current to properly initialize a USB mode (500mA). You will need to get your self a powered hub or get yourself a HSDPA mobile.
