I have exactly the same problem. Two new batteries were used for six exposures. Ten days later the camera would not come on. I replaced the batteries again, did not take any pictures, and checked the camera on a daily basis. Four days later the camera would not come on.

JJohn, you probably got a bad battery, the camera "sees" both batteries as a single battery so if the camera was draining the batteries would both be bad.

excanonuser, your camera has a battery drain, on the rebel x it is either the flash PCB or the main Flexible PCB.

When I insert a new roll of film into my Canon Rebel S 35mm SLR, it automatically rewinds the film instead of winding it onto the spool. I can't figure out why it's doing this.

this is normal, as these cameras are designed to wind the entire film to the take up spool then as you expose the file will roll back into the cassette. this was a feature that canon devised to protect already exposed film when the back cover is inadvertantly opened.

Canon EOS Rebel K2 constant low battery indicator light

Canon also uses the low battery Icon as a generic error code. Try taking the lens off the camera. If this fixes the problem the lens needs a repair (most likely the aperture unit). If not then the camera needs the repair (either the shutter or dc-dc converter circuit).
