Question about Gestetner - DSm618d Digital Imaging System Standard Duplexing Copier

Disabling the fax function

Good afternoon,

Is there a simple way to disable the fax function? We are unable to print nor to copy. Machine keeps on wanting to print a fax report which gets consistently jammed in the machine. We barely use the fax anyway and disabling this function (rather than addressing the jamming issue which will require to get a technician "in") will help us in the short term. Please help!!

Thank you

Thank you but the machine automatically set itself to the fax function, try to print the report and it gets jam again. I even turned off the machine off for a couple of days hoping that any jobs in memory would be deleted -even this has failed. There must be a way to disable the fax function. Thank you :-)

Thank you for your prompt response. You are right, "fax" light is lit...

The "stop communication" did not help me. A message popped up with "no communicating /standing files". As far as checking the RX button, there are indeed a list of 40 files / faxes that have been sent, but no where is a button to delete any of these files.

In reference to post #1, the tray,. paper size etc... are properly adjusted. The jam takes place when the paper is being rolled around. It seems that there is a "tooth" that crumbles the sheet, resulting in a paper jam.

Sounds like the best way to resolve this would be to re-set the software, but if this can be done by internet, can this be done over the phone then? Or you can e-mail me directly at Nathalie@somacreativegroup.com. Thank you for your help. This is MUCH appreciated

You can set the fax portion of the machine to manual receive like this:
"User tools"
"fax features" ok
"reception settings" ok
"switch reception mode" ok
"Manual reception" ok
"user tools" to exit
Thia will prevent the machine from picking uo any incoming faxes

....However, if the machine is jamming trying to print a 'fax' report, it will jam regardless of the feature you are using -they are unrelated. Depending on the cause of the jam, it could be a specific tray that is causing the problem, so you may want to remove the paper from that tray, and see how it works. The other reason, that is common for jams from one particular tray is that the size is set incorrectly. Check that the paper size dial on the tray is set for the appropriate size in the tray (including orientation).

If none of this helps, please describe the location of the jams, and I may be able to give further advice.

You must be talking about the "default" setting being set to "fax" as opposed to "copy". In other words, the "fax"light is lit. It matters not, what the default setting is, if there is something in memory, it will try to print.
There is a way to reset the software in service mode, but it is too risky for me to post here...I'm sorry.
You can try the following to wipe out the pages in memory, to stop the printing. I know this works from pages waitning to be sent; However not sure if it works for pages received in memory.
First, after removing jam, leave paper drawers open to prevent reprinting, then press the "fax" button, press "Job information", press "stop communication", there would not show a "stop tx" (transmission) button if there were any messages waiting to be sent. My hope is that thee is a "stop Rx" button to delete anything that is waiting to be printed. If so, go through the files and delete them all. I hope this helps....Perhaps you should check the "tx" status as well, in case the machine is trying to print any kind of transmission result report (for example) if this feature is "eneabled"
Again, as I said, you will still continue to have a misfeed problem, because there is something wrong somewhere - because paper feed problems are unrelated to the feature you are using. You didn't answer any of my questions in the first post about trying any of the suggestions. Please let me know if any of this helps.

So the paper is jamming in the fuser, now we're getting somewhere. These machines have a little bit of history with "picker fingers". I'm sorry to say, that no matter what you do, you're not going to be able to get a piece of paper through this machine until the fuser is serviced, and the picker(s) replaced.
You'll have to call a tech.
If by chance, you're in the Toronto (Canada) area, I can help you, otherwise call someone local.
    Good luck :)

Error 388 when trying to send a fax

The local machine has originated a fax session and detected a remote fax machine but has been unable to detect any T30 frames. If the machine is in V.17 mode, it is likely the connection has been interrupted. In V.34 mode is also possible for this error to occur due to compatibility problems with certain machines and/or line conditions.

Solution:

1. Reattempt the fax transmission at a different time when telephone line conditions have improved.

2. Disable V.34 on the local machine and attempt the transmission using the V.17 mode. ( See error 227 for changing to a slower speed or disabling V.34 .)

Brother fax 560

Try this: Press MENU, select FAX, then scroll down to REMAINING JOBS. If any jobs are displayed , you can choose to print them. To print from the fax memory, first exit out of the MENU functions totally. Then, press MENU,2,5,4. Next, press START. After all faxes in memory have printed, press STOP/EXIT button. Check REMAINING JOBS again, if it is clear, fax memory should be clear, Also.If the fax machine has a PRINTER function, press the JOB CANCEL button to clear the print Queue.
