Dryer drum does not move and there is no sound when turned on...not even a hum. If the belt is broken, wouldn't the motor still make a sound?

Yes the motor would still hum. Check to make sure you have power to your plug. If so then there might be a blown fuse in the dryer.

SOURCE: Kenmore series 90 dryer

I hae to say it, but it sounds like the motor has already gone out. That loud humming noise is usually the start windings going out. There is no other way easily to tell if the motor is out, but taking the belt off and saying it doesnt look broke what work in this situation. I would imagine that you have a DOTT (Dryer Of Tommorrow, Today) dryer, because you said it had the front panel. The motor part number is 279787 if this the case. Good Luck, and let me know if you find out any new information or need further help.

Wont start makes humming noise

sounds like the humming may be the motor running. check to see if your drive belt is broken. a fairly easy and inexpensive fix. take top of dryer and see if belt is around drum. if broken it will not be there. if it is there, turn drum by hand and see if you get resistence or pull on belt and see if there is slack. belt may be off of drive pulley.

I have an Amana front load dryer. When I try to run it, i get a low hum noise for a few seconds, then nothing. The dryer won't run, the drum won't spin. Any advice?

When you get the hum, is the drum moving? It sounds like the motor is not turning. Can you spin the drum freely by hand? IF so, the belt may be broken. If not, you may have a bad motor. If you aren't handy, I'm afraid you're going to have to call appliance repair service, or think about getting a new or different dryer.

My LG Tronn Dryer will not turn. The Check Filter light was on and we cleaned the filters and it went off. The dryer hums when the power is on but does not come on or the drum does not move. The drum

listen carefully to the hum if it sounds like the motor is running its a broken belt, if it sounds like its not turning it could be the capacitor on the motor.

When you press start on my dryer is is making a humming noise but will not come on

On the info provided, it may be the drum belt has broken and the motor is not able to turn the drum. The humming you hear is most likely the motor turning as it should, but due to the broken belt, the motor is not able to turn the drum.

We're original owners of this 10 year old dryer. For the past year it was very noisy (squeaks loudly when in operation). I never isolated the cause, just figured the bearings were failing. Last night it...

If the dryer motor only hums when you press the Start button, the motor may be burned out. Here's how to test the dryer motor:Remove the belt. Check for obstructions in the blower fan housing. Manually rotate the shaft of the motor. If the motor is very stiff, or impossible to rotate manually, and the blower fan housing is clear, you need to replace the motor. If the motor rotates freely, run the motor momentarily with the belt removed and the blower in place. If the motor runs fine with the belt removed, there may be a problem with the idler pulley or the clothes drum. Try to rotate the drum by hand. If it is very difficult to move, correct any problem with the rollers or pulley, and then reassemble the dryer and try it again. If the motor hums but doesn't rotate on its own even with the belt removed--yet you can turn it freely by hand--you usually need to replace the motor or the motor start capacitor.

Tub stopped turning, connot turn by hand either.

Hi,
Dryers have a belt that turns the drum, I think dryer belt being broken or slipping badly, burn out motor, or worn support parts.
---Dryer have a belt that rotate the drum, If the belt worn out or broken, it can not move the drum then you just need to replace it. ---You can check motor by hearing buzzing sound, if the belt has the problem. If you do not hear any sound from the motor then you may have to replace it. ---Try to move drum manually (by hand), if it is hard to turn then problem with the idler pulley, glides, or drum rollers.
I hope this will solve you problem

Thanks..!!

Dryer turn on but would not spin

When the dryer will not spin the most common cause is a broken dryer belt.

If the dryer motor only hums when you press the Start button, the motor may be burned out. Here's how to test the dryer motor:

  • Remove the belt.

  • Check for obstructions in the blower fan housing.

  • Manually rotate the shaft of the motor.

Door switch Your dryer can't operate at all if the door switch is defective. It's inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

When we push the on button, you can hear a hum,

Sounds like the belt that turns the drum has broken. the hum sound is the motor turning. Does it still get hot in the drum? If so then you need a replacement belt ($15-$25).You can open the rear or the dryer to confirm the belt is broken. Be sure to unplug from the wall outlet to avoid electrical shock.
